Kate Del Castillo Talks About How ‘la Reina Del Sur’ Changed Her Life.

Del Castillo claims that destiny thrust her into a world—a man’s world—where she had to fight numerous horrors and make margaritas from lemons.

“Teresa Mendoza, the character I created, is, in my opinion, the anti-heroine. She is authentic, unfiltered, and prone to numerous flaws. She consistently makes blunders and has many flaws. She can be extremely tough, but she can also be really fragile. She is also a mother, and as such, she defends everyone who belongs to her people in addition to her daughter.”

“All the values you will see in this third season are outstanding when you combine them with actors and fantastic production. We are on par with any American show… Regardless of language, we dominated the first season in that time slot. We defeated ABC, CBS, and NBC, which is incredible to me. When you do something in your own language, it really is a crossover, which is awesome.”

And to think that she nearly missed out on the job…

“When it was initially intended to be a movie, I had my eye on that character for a very long time. It was directed by and starred numerous actresses. Nobody even bothered to look at me until they gave up on creating a movie and it turned into a series. Everyone wanted to be Teresa Mendoza. I had no idea it would be so successful. Everyone was quite surprised by it.”

La Reina del Sur had an impact on the former Mexican soap actress’s life.

“In terms of my career, it was a turning point. Even though I already had a successful career, this persona made me known to a much wider, global audience because they all adored him. It altered both my career trajectory and who I am as a person.”
