The long-awaited Assassin’s Creed live-action series at Netflix has officially found its first lead star. Actor Toby Wallace, best known for his roles in The Bikeriders and Babyteeth, has joined the cast in a major role for the upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft’s globally acclaimed video game franchise.
Netflix confirmed the casting news on November 25, marking the first major update since the streamer gave the project a full series order earlier this year.
Toby Wallace Joins the Assassin Brotherhood
While details about Wallace’s character remain tightly under wraps, reports suggest he will portray one of the series’ main leads. The show promises to be a “high-octane action thriller” that explores the centuries-long conflict between the Assassins — defenders of free will — and the Templars, who seek to control humanity through order and manipulation.

“The story is centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will,” reads the official synopsis.
The project also marks a reunion between Wallace and Netflix, following his breakout performance in the mystery drama The Society, which aired in 2019. Before the Assassin’s Creed series begins production, Wallace is set to appear in Euphoria season 3 on HBO.
Production Details and Creative Team
The Assassin’s Creed series will be executive-produced by Roberto Patino (Westworld, DMZ) and David Wiener (Brave New World), who also serve as showrunners. Additional executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones from Ubisoft Film & Television, alongside Matt O’Toole.
Production is slated to begin in 2026 with filming expected to take place in Italy, one of the historical settings frequently featured in the game franchise.
A Franchise Built on History and Legacy

Since its launch in 2007, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed has become one of the most successful game franchises of all time, selling over 230 million copies worldwide. Known for its intricate blend of historical fiction, stealth action, and philosophical depth, the franchise spans multiple eras — from the Crusades and Renaissance Italy to Revolutionary America and Ancient Egypt.
The series marks Ubisoft’s latest effort to expand its transmedia storytelling after the 2016 film adaptation, which starred Michael Fassbender. While that film received mixed reviews, Netflix and Ubisoft are reportedly aiming for a more faithful and expansive approach to the source material, with multiple projects — including animated and anime spinoffs — also in early development.
What Fans Can Expect
While the cast and story details are being kept secret, fans can expect Assassin’s Creed on Netflix to blend historical authenticity, deep character drama, and the philosophical conflict that defines the games.
Given the franchise’s global fanbase and Netflix’s growing investment in video game adaptations — including hits like The Witcher and Arcane — expectations for Assassin’s Creed are sky-high.
