The second race of the NASCAR playoffs took place on Saturday at Richmond Raceway. The race included five drivers within 10 points of each other around the postseason elimination line. However, the intense backdrop did not lead to a particularly intense race. Brad Keselowski sped to victory in a crash-free Federated Auto Parts 400, the third race of the 2020 season without a non-competition caution.
Keselowski’s victorious recap, NASCAR
Keselowski led 192 of 400 laps, including the final 48, on his way to ultimate victory. Initially, in Stage 1, Keselowski held back and didn’t attempt to get the lead over others. He was in the fourth position when the race began. In fact, Denny Hamlin took the Stage 1 victory after a tough competition with Austin Dillon for the same.
Keselowski managed to take over in Stage 2. He passed Austin Dillon with 17 laps remaining and achieved the Stage 2 victory. He grabbed the lead for the first time on Lap 122, leaving Joey Logano behind. Stage 2 was definitely intense for Keselowski because of tough competition from Dillon and a few others. Finally, in Lap 218, he used some lap traffic to navigate around Dillon. Maintaining a steady lead over Dillon, Keselowski managed to take the Stage 2 victory.
In the final stage, Keselowski was being followed by Martin Truex Jr. and Logano. On Lap 293, most of the drivers, including Keselowski, had started utilizing a two-stop strategy to complete the final stage. Logano managed to overtake him. However, he got back around Logano in Lap 317. But, he was constantly being taken over, mostly by Dillon. Ultimately, Keselowski ended up taking the checkered flag nearly 2.6 seconds ahead of Truex and deemed victorious!
Keselowski’s reaction post-winning
Reportedly, this win is Keselowski’s 4th win of the 2020 season and the 34th win of his career. Keselowski will now be advancing to the Round of 12, joining Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin as drivers who have secured a bid before the final race of the Round of 16. Post-race, he said that it was a great race and that he wished to use the same car for Pheonix. Further, he continued,
The next round is going to be really difficult, but, still, I’m really pumped about this performance and the way we run at short tracks.
Further, when he was asked about his hopes of winning the championship, he said,
We’ve got to get there. The last two years I haven’t made it all the way, so we’ve got to get all the way there, but if we can get to Phoenix, we’re going to be really good.
