Dallas Stars defeated Vegas Golden Knights, 3-2

For the first time in 20 years, Dallas Stars have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. They managed to defeat Vegas Golden Knights in overtime on Monday night. The match took place in Edmonton, Alberta. It was a crucial one for the Knights. However, the Stars have crushed the Knights’ dreams of winning the Cup as they advance to the next level. Previously, Dallas Stars won the Cup back in 1999, and the last time they reached the finals was in 2000. They’ve had a rollercoaster of a season this year!

Stars v/s Knights – Gameplay

The game started well. In the first period, Chandler Stephenson scored the first goal for the Knights. Further, both the teams failed to score a single goal in the second period. Nevertheless, within 15 seconds of the third period, Reilly Smith scored a second goal for the Knights. This put the Stars in a fix. But, it did not stop the Stars from putting up a good fight. With less than 4 minutes remaining, they managed to tie the score and pushed the game into overtime. 31 seconds into OT, Alexander Radulov scored the final, winning goal for the Stars and boosted the team into the finale. Naturally, Vegas Golden Nights had to pack their bags and head home.

Dallas Stars: Season Recap

Dallas Stars had an up-and-down season this year. They started the 2019-2020 season with one win in the first nine games (1-7-1). Later, they won 14 of 16 (14-1-1). Further, they lost 6 games before the season paused in March due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.

Moving on, the Stars surprised everyone when they replaced their coach, Jim Montgomery, with Rick Bowness in the middle of the season. Montgomery was fired on 10th December due to unprofessional conduct. Three weeks later, he entered an alcohol rehab center. Reportedly, the Stars performed significantly well after their coach changed.

After going 1-2 in the round-robin, the Stars defeated the Calgary Flames in the first round in six games. They overcame a 3-0 deficit in the clincher and won 7-3. Further, they led 3-1 into the second-round series against Colorado before playing Game 7 against the Avalanche. Joel Kiviranta, a newbie, replaced Andrew Cogliano as he was unfit to play. His heroic moves in Game 7 led them towards victory. He scored a hat-trick and left everyone stunned. Because of him, the Stars reached the conference finals for the first time since 2008.

Dallas Stars will now face the winner of the Eastern Conference final. The final between Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders will take place on Tuesday. Additionally, the Lightning holds a 3-1 series lead as they head into Game 5.
