Recently, Netflix releases “cuties” on September 9. It is directed and written by Black French director Maïmouna Doucouré. Actually, the film is in the limelight for negative reasons. Basically, The film portrays the hyper-sexualization of young girls. The film revolves around an 11-year young girl. She is a Senegalese Muslim immigrant. The young girl is caught in a dilemma, whether to choose family traditions or dance with a free-spirited crew of young girls.

Although, Cuties is in fame but in a wrong manner. Recently, Netflix promotes the movie in a little disrupt manner. Reportedly, Netflix’s original description for cuties was an inappropriate manner. This online streaming platform described the movie as,
” Amy, 11, becomes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her femininity, defying her family’s traditions.”
The poster of the film was also unethical. It contains four girls posing in suggestive outfits.
Contrary to that, it gained a lot of backlashes from people as well as critics. Critics accused Netflix of sexualizing minors and promoting pedophilia. Reported, Netflix was the culprit for promoting the movie in a poor manner. Eventually, Netflix had to put an apology. Accordingly, Netflix changes cuties description and poster. In response to this, #cancelnetflix was trending on Saturday 10. As a result of it, many people cancel their Netflix subscription and posted it on Twitter. IMDB even warned about it. Surprisingly, the Petition is signed against the Cuties.
However, Netflix is a known platform. It should have sensibly promoted the movie. Reportedly, cuties were premiered at Sundance too. This was a stupid behavior of this online streaming platform. Even though, they apologized for this incident. But still, it gained a lot of backlashes from people. We hope that Netflix doesn’t repeat their mistakes next time. And eventually, come up with better ideas of promotion.
