The Black Lives Matter Movement made the world rethink the pathetic condition faced by many people because of Apartheid. Several protests are witnessed in different areas of the world but Portland has been the site of nightly protest for the last three months, after the death of police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. President Trump also mentioned the city in his speech on Thursday at the Republican National Convention where he invoked ‘Portland as a liberal city overrun with violence.’
Conditions worsened in Portland, Oregon:
The circumstances in Portland, Oregon turned out to be more malignant when One person was fatally shot; late Saturday. Several people were already arrested by local and federal law enforcement, and the citizens were also advised to avoid the downtown’ on Saturday itself. The incident took place when a large caravan of President Donald Trump supporters and Black Lives Matter protestors met up with a ferocious clash in the streets.
The situation was not being clarified whether the shooting linked to the fight or not! It is also reported about 600 vehicles were confronted by protestors in the city’s downtown. The caravan of Trump supporters assembled earlier in a day at a mall and headed towards the heart of Portland, but as they arrived in the city; protestors attempted to stop them by blocking streets and bridges. The visuals of the incidents show sporadic fighting among the protestors and counter-protestors ending up in huge vandalism and violence.
An associated Press freelancer observed police medics working on the body of the victim, who appeared to be a white man. He also claims, that man was wearing a hat of ‘Insignia of Patriot Prayer”(Right winged group who have faced many recent clashes with the protestors )
“Portland Police officers heard sounds of gunfire from the area of Southeast 3rd Avenue and Southwest Alder Street. They responded and located a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medical responded and determined that the victim was deceased,” the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement.
