American Born Chinese: The Plot
Jin Wang is the major focus of the story of American Born Chinese. Just transplanted from San Francisco’s Chinatown, high school senior Jin Wang now resides in a peaceful San Francisco suburb. Jin Wang was born and raised in the United States, yet he still has trouble finding his place in the world and reconciling the different parts of his personality.
Meeting a new international exchange student named Wei-Chen disrupts his normal high school routine. Wei-Chen, a Taiwanese native, shares the timeless Chinese tale Journey to the West with Jin Wang. The premise of American Born Chinese is heavily based on this classic work, which was initially published in 1592 and has since inspired numerous versions. This new show on television is an excellent entry point for those interested in learning more about Chinese literature. By his friendship with Wei-Chen, Jin Wang is drawn into a supernatural war between numerous gods and figures from Chinese mythology.

Oscar-winning actor or actress In this new show, Michelle Yeoh plays Guanyin. Like the Bodhisattva of the same name from East Asia, this figure exemplifies grace, divinity, and compassion.
