This forces Ally, Sean, and Cassidy to start over and rediscover themselves. If you’ve been curious about how the emotional tangle at the end of “Somebody I Used to Know” is resolved, we’ve got the details.

The Twist in the Tale of “Somebody I Used to Know”

Who is the former acquaintance of Ally?

When Ally is out and about, she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Sean. They spend a wonderful day reminiscing and having a great time together. Because of the apparent attraction between them, Ally and Sean exchange a passionate kiss.

However, he rejects her advances since he is about to marry Cassidy, a young woman who has been rejected by her parents because of her sexuality and is therefore aware of the unusual circumstances surrounding Ally’s return to Sean’s life. While Ally was almost ready to leave Sean for real, Sean’s mom Jojo asked her to stay and record their wedding.

Ally has started holding one-on-one interviews with close relatives and friends the night before the wedding. People in the group express their happiness by both laughing and crying together. Sean then walks up to the audio recorder and, using his affections for Cassidy as cover, reveals his true feelings for Ally. A member of the hotel staff interrupts their embrace to inform Cassidy that her parents have arrived.

How does Ally plan to stop Sean and Cassidy from being together?

When we consider this, it becomes clear why she refused to let them inside. They are devout Christians of the conservative variety who find Cassidy’s prioritisation of women over Sean offensive. The father makes a sexist remark like “at least Sean is a boy,” and the mother reveals that they were worried that their son’s name might be misinterpreted as “butch” for a lesbian (yikes). Cassidy reprimands her parents, and then they leave.

Sean chases after her after she confronts him about calling her parents. Ally is overtaken with remorse as she tells Benny that she has decided to give up on her relationship with Sean. Sean eventually goes to his fiancee’s door and knocks, but she still won’t open it.

After a protracted talk in which a kiss between them seems inevitable, they finally argue. Ally tells Sean that by asking Cassidy to put her life on hold or sacrifice things that are important to her for him, he is treating her the same way he was treated.

Angry After a heated argument, Sean rushes out and Ally goes to check on Cassidy. Cassidy, Sean’s fiancee, becomes furious as she hears Ally say that she doesn’t want the couple to settle down as Sean had hoped. Why? As a musician, she has a great deal of promise. Cassidy hugged and kissed her sister Goodnight before drifting off to sleep on the bed. The following day, after Ally has hidden, Sean reveals himself and expresses regret. The parents of Sean’s friend Cassidy catch Ally red-handed as she admits that it was she who initiated contact with the girl.

Do Ally and Sean get together at the end?

Ally, on the other hand, goes to see her mom before the wedding and leaves before the reception even begins. She heads back home, a sign of growth in that she has given her assistant more responsibility as showrunner. Ally creates a wedding film for Sean and Cassidy. As soon as Ally gets back to her roots, she begins shooting a documentary about nudists (it was revealed that she used to be a nudist in high school).

Ally is shown in the last shots conducting interviews with nudists while fully clothed. In the aftermath of the movie’s completion, the cameraman she had a crush on from the start (Kevin Yu) asks her out for a drink. Ally can’t volunteer this week since she has to go home and see her mother, but she will be able to the week following. Ally leaves, smiling and laughing to herself as if she were living the dream.
