Daughter of Goldie Hawn, an Oscar-winning actress, and Bill Hudson, an actor, comedian, and musician, Hudson was born in Los Angeles, California. Her parents separated when she was 18 months old, and she and her older brother, actor Oliver Hudson, were raised by their mother and mother’s longtime lover, actor Kurt Russell, in Snowmass, Colorado, and Pacific Palisades, California.
The maternal side of Hudson’s family is Jewish from Hungary, while the paternal side is Italian, and the rest is a blend of English, some German, and other European languages. She was brought up in a Jewish household and shares her mother’s Buddhist beliefs.
According to Hudson, her real dad “doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall,” and she now thinks of Russell as her real dad instead. According to Hudson, “the woman that I’ve learnt the most from and who I look up to, who has handled her life in a way that I can look up to” is her mother. She has four half-siblings: Wyatt Russell, from her mother’s connection with Kurt Russell; Emily Hudson and Zachary Hudson, from her biological father’s second marriage to actress Cindy Williams; and Lalania Hudson, from his relationship with another woman.
She completed high school at Santa Monica’s Crossroads in 1997. She was offered admission to NYU but instead chose to focus on her acting career.
