Netflix has only recently begun streaming the fifth season of The Crown, but we are already looking forward to and reporting on all of the details of the upcoming sixth and final season. Production started in September, and it is expected that the new season will be available on Netflix by the end of 2023 at the latest.
The Crown, an original series produced by Netflix and conceived of by Peter Morgan, has quickly become one of the streaming service’s most-watched programs. The Crown has been one of the most expensive television series ever produced, with the production of each season costing more than $100 million. This has been the case ever since the show’s first season. Peter Morgan reversed his decision, and shortly after production began on the fifth season, an announcement was made that there would be the sixth season.
Date of the Premiere of Season 6 of the Crown
Even while there is not yet an official release date for the sixth season of The Crown, it does not imply that there is no information about the episodes that will air in the future. The production initially started in August of 2022 and is still running strong now.
The first two seasons, which aired in 2016 and 2017, were followed by seasons three and four, which will air in 2019 and 2020 respectively. It is possible that the conclusion of the series will air in 2023 given that the debut of the fifth season took place in 2022.
The Crown’s Storyline for Season 6
Season 6 of The Crown takes place in the late 1990s and the early 2000s, in contrast to previous seasons, which took place over the course of nearly a decade. This indicates that the drama series on Netflix would chronicle the events leading up to the vehicle accident that occurred on August 31, 1997, in Paris and involved Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed.

Showrunner Peter Morgan has also stated (via Deadline) that the sixth season of The Crown will not attempt to bring the show’s narrative up to date but will instead concentrate on the mid-2000s. This decision was made.

Is Season Six of the Crown the Last Season?
The sixth season of The Crown will indeed be the last one. The fifth season was supposed to be the last, but Morgan decided there was too much content to cover in just 10 episodes. It is obvious that this is the best time and location to wrap out the series (opens in new tab).
It became clear as we started formulating the plots for series five that we would have to go back to the original plan of six seasons in order to honor the depth and complexity of the story.
Imelda Staunton Will Play the Queen?
Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret, and it has already been revealed that Staunton will play the Queen in season 5. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they’ll keep playing these parts. When asked about the end of the show, Staunton told T&C, “I haven’t really thought about it. Although there is yet a ways to go, I shall sincerely miss being her.
