It’s likely that many of you already are aware of this, but The Flash season 9 is going to be the last one to air on The CW, and you can bet that it’s going to be an emotional finale. There is a good potential that several characters who have been fan favorites over the years will make a return in some way.
In addition to this, there will be an opportunity for viewers to watch Barry and Iris begin to make serious plans for their future together. There is a certain amount of irony in the fact that the characters played by Grant Gustin and Candice Patton already know a significant portion of what their future holds, but they are still attempting to make preparations for it. Regardless, this will constitute a significant portion of what is ahead for both of them!
Patton made the following comments about the plot at the beginning of season 9 while he was attending the Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala that was held to benefit F— Cancer. These comments were recently reported by TVLine. “I don’t know much [about the remainder of the season], but I think it’s going to be very Barry and Iris-heavy, obviously, to send them off in a way that will delight the fans… I think it’s going to be very Barry and Iris-heavy.” They have a legacy that needs to be carried on, so let’s hope that we can get to that point. I, too, am really interested to observe [what takes place].”
In case you needed a reminder that we are not going to be getting any new episodes in the near future, the production of Patton season 9 has already begun, and the show is already a handful of episodes into production. At this point, we are still at least a few weeks away from the announcement of a launch date, and we are not going to see the show air until 2023. Because this was always the intention, we don’t believe there is any major amount of surprise associated with this development.
Amidst all of the ambiguity surrounding The CW’s future plans, we can only hold out hope that this program will be given a fitting conclusion. The network was just recently acquired by Nexstar Media Group, and earlier today, Mark Pedowitz announced his resignation from his job as programming manager. He is one of the people responsible for shepherding the Arrowverse for many years, but the current owners have no true nostalgia or passion for this brand.
