We’re getting close to Jimmy McGill’s final journey. The sixth season of Better Call Saul, the series’ final season, will definitively depict how lovable young attorney Jimmy McGill transforms into sleazy criminal attorney Saul Goodman. Better Call Saul is the story of a guy caught between the idealized version of himself that he knows he could be and the less than the respectable version of himself that the world views him as, just like Breaking Bad was the story of one man’s transformation from Mr. Chips to Scarface.

The idealized version will fall short this season, but he will unquestionably do so with style. “Ever since Better Call Saul premiered, I’ve wanted to tell the full tale of our conflicted and compromised hero, Jimmy McGill. Thanks to AMC and Sony, that dream is now becoming a reality. We are incredibly appreciative of the support and criticism that have made this journey possible.

We begin production on the sixth and final season next month, and we’re going to do everything we can to make it happen. Now that the sixth and final season is finished, we are quite eager to see if the actors and crew will actually stick with it. Here is all the information we currently have for Better Call Saul season 6.

Better Call Saul Season 6 Reviews

BCS loves unsettling cold opens. Two elderly riders in shell suits protest about a house’s garish red color. A slow pan across a scrubby wilderness reveals weed and bloodied glass. Lucite sculpture production. What does any of this have to do with Jimmy and Kim, Nacho and Lalo, Mike and Gus? By the end of each episode, the meaning of the details becomes evident. This narrative technique works because the program is centered around puzzles: How and why did Jimmy become Saul? Why is Kim never mentioned on the parent show?

Jimmy/Saul escapes… everything? Why did Jimmy/Saul become Gene, an Omaha Cinnabon employee? This season shows how well the show merged genres. Part legal/relationship drama, part crime thriller following Jimmy/Saul and wife Kim’s careers and life together. In the midseason finale, psychotic Lalo commits a shocking act of violence in Jimmy and Kim’s home. In the next two episodes, the repercussions of that event become breathtakingly evident. The first is a masterpiece of acutely sustained tension recounted nearly in real-time, while the second delves as deeply as ever into the primary characters.

Saul and Kim’s opening montage to Harry Nilsson’s “Perfect Day” is a piece of art. Witness Jimmy cleaning up marinara sauce during lunch and Mike scrubbing blood from the flooring. The subsequent conflict between Kim and Jimmy exposes the naked truth at the heart of their relationship. Kim and Jimmy are soulmates, therefore we’re cheering for them to the end. For a show about crime and violence, it’s shocking how much this one killing affects Kim and Jimmy. Fun and games till someone were hurt (“Fun and Games” is the title of Episode 9, the cartel storyline’s culmination). Kim’s guilt destroys her.

Jimmy and Kim try desperately to get over it. Kim understands. “Together we’re poison” In that sequence, Rhea Seehorn, and Bob Odenkirk shine. This whole series is amazing. There’s more. The next four episodes, primarily shot in the grainy black-and-white aesthetic the series employed from the start when presenting Jimmy’s future as “Gene” in Omaha, felt like a coda to the rest of the series, like a long expiration of breath after all that tension, anguish, and bloodshed. The aftermath slows down. Saul’s makeover as a Cinnabon manager in a generic shopping mall suggests he’s retired from crime. Kim lives in her own monochrome world and has an uninteresting partner.

As Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould weave in colorful flashbacks to Breaking Bad legends, it becomes clear that this series is about Jimmy and Kim. Jimmy “became” Saul to get over Kim. He had to become Gene. Jimmy/Saul/Gene can’t resist the scam, so he creates more intricate schemes in Omaha, starting with Marion (played by TV icon Carol Burnett). Marion is Saul’s best “mark.” She’s his undoing. Jimmy and Kim’s return to Albuquerque for the series finale is no mere coda. Throughout this last season, the question has been whether Jimmy and Kim will be punished for their transgressions and whether they can find closure and peace individually and together.

How all this plays out in the final episode – first in a magnificent courtroom sequence with a genuinely bravura performance from Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy delves deep into his conscience for Kim’s sake – is as ingenious and satisfying a denouement as humanly conceivable. All the drama and suspense in these final moments come from Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn’s half-smiles and wistful eyes. Jimmy faces prison. Kim is prosecuted. They’re cool. This story’s brilliance is enough.
