What if you’d like to spice up your Netflix binge? You don’t have to worry about anything because we have you covered. These top Netflix action movies include everything from kid-friendly adventure flicks to blockbuster superhero epics to classic Kung Fu pictures. If you’re sick of the same old, same old, Netflix has a great selection of action movies to keep you entertained.
1. Gunpowder Milkshake
One of the most notable aspects of Gunpowder Milkshake is the fact that it’s a female-driven action thriller, but it is also a heartfelt narrative about mother and daughter reconnecting after a past abandonment. Sam (Karen Gillan), a lethal hitwoman, teams up with her estranged mother (Lena Headey) to safeguard a youngster (Chloe Coleman) who is the target of a crime organization.
Angela Bassett, Carla Gugino, and Michelle Yeoh form a formidable assassination team when they join forces with each other. Gunpowder Milkshake is a sweet and violent delight for the eyes, thanks to its unusual cinematography and superb battle choreography.
2. The Old Guard
For her roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde and other action flick, Charlize Theron are one of the top action performers working today. As an ancient leader of an eternal band of assassins in Netflix’s The Old Guard, Theron gets to put those talents to work in a gripping comic book adaptation.
In her first big blockbuster action role, Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of Love & Basketball and Beyond the Lights, takes the reins of The Old Guard, a film that not only features some of the genre’s most exciting action sequences and kinetic fight scenes but also acknowledges that taking a life has a cost. For the most part, it’s empathetic and human, which adds weight to the adrenaline rushes without detracting from the fun you’re having at the movies.

And, of course, I’m also a fan of Theron’s ability to just kick ass all over the place. This is a tricky thread to thread, but Bythewood does it with ease, and she even adds a little romance to the mix.
2. The Harder They Fall
The Harder They Fall is a Revisionist Western that tells the story of a young cowboy named Nat Love, whose parents are murdered by an outlaw. Upon Love’s release from prison, Love reunites with his gang and sets out to track down the criminal in question. It has an all-star cast, many of whose characters are based on historical personalities from the 19th century.
A must-see for Western aficionados, but even if you’re not into cowboys, this is a well-crafted story that will satisfy your action-hungry appetite!
4. Red Notice
Red Notice is one of the most popular Netflix movies in recent memory, and it’s easy to see why. For what it’s worth, the storyline may not be up to par with Ocean’s Eleven, but the comedy and acting in this heist film are both excellent. With Dwayne Johnson as FBI profiler John Hartley and Reynolds as the world’s second-best art thief Nolan Booth, the two men are forced to work together after they are both falsely accused of the crimes of the world’s best art thief, an anonymous lady known only as The Bishop (Gal Gadot).
To uncover a rare treasure, the Bishop and Hartley engage in an international cat-and-mouse game. Red Notice is a wonderful action comedy with plenty of laughs, and there are already two sequels in the works.
Watching Scott Adkins get into fights of all kinds is a major attraction. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a bar brawl, a prison brawl, or anything else. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, then check out Avengement, the next action film from DTV action champion Adkins and director Jesse V. Johnson, who previously worked on Savage Dog and Accident Man.
Here, Adkins and Johnson are definitely drawing inspiration from the Guy Ritchie/Matthew Vaughn style of British criminal movies, with a lot more roundhouse kicks. Adkins plays a recently released convict named Cain Burgess, who goes to a local pub and holds the men responsible for his horrifying prison term accountable for their crimes.

The film jumps back and forth in time as he holds them at gunpoint. The film’s structure is initially perplexing but ultimately quite satisfying. The physical strength of Adkins is unmatched in the action genre, and he has plenty of opportunities to show off his abilities thanks to experienced stuntman Johnson. If you enjoy DTV action movies, you’ll enjoy this one, which has some shockingly violent sequences.
6. Triple Frontier
If Triple Frontier isn’t your dad’s favorite movie, he simply hasn’t watched it yet. Director J.C. Chandor, who previously helmed “A Most Violent Year,” adapts a screenplay he co-wrote with “Zero Dark Thirty” co-writer Mark Boal. Triple Frontier is an action-packed heist film about a group of bros in love.
Santiago “Pope” Garcia, played by Oscar Isaac, is a DEA agent who recruits the old Special Forces crew to help him rob a drug lord in the jungle. With Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal & Garrett Hedlund, all of whom have equally chiseled jaws, Isaac will be in good company. The real kicker in Triple Frontier is that it has a lot to say about what happens to professionally violent guys once the firing stops, even though it is mostly an explosions-and-helicopters picture.
7. Beyond Skyline
This is the kind of WTF that you don’t see every day. A sci-fi flick like Skyline, which received a lot of negative attention, was a complete surprise to me, much less than the sequel would turn out to be an action-packed, globe-trotting thrill ride. It’s a proud, pulpy B-movie with aliens that rip your brain out of your skull, Beyond Skyline, starring Frank Grillo as a cop at odds with his son (Jonny Weston).
Aliens arrive on the scene and the movie moves at breakneck speed, cramming a paperback book series’ worth of science fiction lunacy into a single feature film. The action takes place in underground tunnels, a nuclear wasteland in Los Angeles, an alien ship, and all the way to Laos, where Mark teams up with rebels to fight the alien threat.
Among the cast members is Frank Grillo, wielding a space-blaster while holding a baby in one hand, Vietnam veteran Antonio Fargas, as well as Iko Uwais and Yaya Ruhain, who take on huge aliens with aplomb. There is even a genuine Kaiju fight. Beyond Skyline isn’t for everyone, but if you enjoy a good B-movie, writer-director Liam O’Donnell’s feature film debut should satisfy your cravings.
8. Army of the Dead
After achieving long-awaited success with this spring’s release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the cult favorite director is back (without interference from the studio) with a follow-up to his very first film, the remake of Dawn of the Dead from 2004.
Many consider this film to be his best work to date. The action-zombie-heist hybrid starring Dave Bautista has already proven to be a rating winner for the streaming service, stars Dave Bautista.
9. The Sleepover
Malin Akerman and Joe Manganiello appear in this original production from Netflix that is geared at families and tells the story of adolescent siblings who learn that their seemingly ordinary mother is actually badass hiding out in witness protection.
The screenplay for the action-comedy was written by Sarah Rothschild, and Trish She directed the film. Since it was first made available on Netflix, The Sleepover has consistently been among the service’s most popular original programming offerings.
The extraordinary charisma and outstanding action chops exhibited by Jessica Chastain go a long way toward redeeming Tate Taylor’s action crime thriller about an assassin who has been marked for death.
The film also stars John Malkovich, Geena Davis, and Colin Farrell in supporting roles.
