Top 10 Suspense Thrillers on Netflix in 2022!

We’ve got you covered when it comes to summer 2022’s entertainment options. In many cases, we go to the movies (or these days, watch from the comfort of our own homes) because we want to experience something. White-knuckler suspense is one of the most effective ways to cause the audience to tense up.

There is a virtual library of excellent suspense thrillers available on Netflix. We’ve put together a list of the best. A wide range of films, from political thrillers to high-octane action flicks, have been considered for this list. Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions. We’ve compiled a list of the best and most suspenseful thrillers available on Netflix at the moment.

1. The Hurt Locker

Jeremy Renner stars as an explosives specialist in the nerve-wracking and highly praised war thriller “Zero Dark Thirty,” which was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal. The film takes an uncompromising look at the Iraq War and its psychological impact on soldiers.

Bigelow beat her ex-husband James Cameron and the film Avatar to become the first woman to ever win the Academy Award for Best Director. She was up against Cameron. Additionally, this is the first time that a female director has won the award for Best Picture.

2. Under the Shadow

Babak Anvari’s feature debut blurs the boundary between supernatural dread and the horrors of the real world like few films you’ll ever see in an expertly constructed and utterly disturbing chiller. Narges Rashidi plays medical student Shideh, who is expelled from her university because of her involvement in revolutionary politics in 1980s Tehran during the War of the Cities, the backdrop of Anvari’s own fear-filled upbringing.

Shideh is left to care for their small daughter Dorsa (Avin Manshadi) alone after her husband is called away to fight on the front lines. When Shideh and Dorsa think things can’t get any worse, an evil genie appears and threatens them.

Persuasive performances and flawless filmmaking conjure a war-torn Iran that is oppressive to see. Because he grew up in a society when VCRs and VHS recordings were considered illegal, Anvari’s directorial debut is marked by an unquantifiable love of cinema. The supernatural scares work, but Anvari’s point seems to be that they’re never quite as terrible as Shideh’s reality. Mark Kermode, an acclaimed British cinema reviewer, proclaimed this small-scale powerhouse to be the best picture of 2016.

3. Cam Movie Netflix

A sexual webcam performer discovers a menacing presence on the internet in this Netflix original, directed by Daniel Goldhaber. Cam examines the subject of sex work with sufficient care and deliberation, and there are some very horrific scenes in the film. The Handmaid’s Tale’s Madeline Brewer turns in a stunning lead performance, often portraying numerous characters on-screen at once.

Thanks to an astute narrative written by former cam girl Isa Mazzei, Cam often examines issues of an identity crisis, something that isn’t exclusive to the field of sexually explicit video games. Despite Cam’s stumbling at the end, the book is rich in interesting ideas, and Brewer is simply breathtaking.

4. The Conjuring

Before Annabelle and The Nun, there was James Wan’s terrifying, well-played thriller about a Rhode Island family terrorized by a witch in 1971. By the end of the previous year, horror had gotten a terrible rap. As far as I know, there was never a goal to the torture films like Saw, which reigned for a decade.

Ed and Lorraine Warren, the famous paranormal investigators played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring, were billed as “based on the genuine case files of” the film as “based on.” Classic horror films like The Exorcist and Poltergeist were brought back to cinemas by this box office behemoth. The first hugely successful movie universe outside of the MCU was born as a result of its popularity.

As a fun tidbit, the makers of The Conjuring were hoping for a more commercial PG-13 rating, but the MPAA decided to give it an R. “It’s just so scary,” the rating board reportedly told Wan. For the PG-13 rating, there are no specific scenes or tones that might be removed. Enjoy!

5. It Follows

A cold-blooded nightmare that may inspire an adult to sleep with a nightlight, David Robert Mitchell‘s supernatural thriller about a shapeshifting killer handed around like a curse emits a searing, downright suffocating atmosphere of fear. Mitchell knocks you off balance from the very beginning in ways you might not even notice:

this picture is set in no clear chronological period, or even a certain season, and many features in the production design and in the character’s behavior just don’t make any sense. This is not unlike the way Stanley Kubrick employed to make us apprehensive throughout The Shining.

There is a quietness, a stillness in It Follows that you won’t find anywhere in contemporary horror hits like Annabelle or It, which rely largely on loud smashing noises and jump scares to disturb an audience. As creative as it is unsettling, It Follows is patient, rewarding attentive viewers with a distinctively, richly upsetting experience.

6. Berlin Syndrome

You may have watched enough movies about women in captivity to last you a lifetime or two. Who are you to blame?

Movies about kidnapped females are so common that they could be considered a separate genre in and of themselves. Generally, these films take one of two approaches: either they focus on the suspense of trying to figure out how and if she will escape, or they take a nastier approach by making a spectacle of her suffering.

Even though Cate Shortland has adapted a thriller by Melanie Joosten, in which the woman is imprisoned by a handsome teacher after an intense one-night-stand, this very absorbing psychological drama stands out because it’s all about the characters and what’s going on in their minds.

Teresa Palmer, best known for her role in Hacksaw Ridge, provides a powerful performance as a grief-stricken victim. Her frightening and multi-faceted kidnapper Max Riemelt (Sense8) keeps up every step of the way as Palmer’s explosive actress long-relegated to portraying love interest side roles in Hollywood. Shortland, on the other hand, helmed the next Black Widow movie for Marvel.

7. The Exorcist

A whole generation was horrified by William Friedkin’s Georgetown-set supernatural thriller based on William Peter Blatty’s novel about a teen girl who is possessed by demons. Filmgoers fainted and vomited, but The Exorcist was still the highest-grossing film of all time when inflation was taken into consideration (even miscarriages and heart attacks have been documented).

This is the first horror picture to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award in its original theatrical cut rather than the shoddy 2000 “version you’ve never seen” (oh, what a difference a few cuts can make). Netflix has the best version of the film.

8. Bird Box

When the world’s population is decimated by otherworldly forces, pregnant mother Malorie (Sandra Bullock) is forced to become a survivalist. Seeing these monsters, which we never see, causes your eyes to glaze over and water, then you go insane and attempt suicide, using whatever means are available.

To get to the house, Malorie and her unborn child had to survive an early scene of murder and ruin on an enormous scale. They were joined by a group of other survivors. Bird Box shattered Netflix’s records and continues to be one of the service’s most popular shows.

9. Mission: Impossible

The firefight on the stairs of Union Station in The Untouchables, the prom scene in Carrie, and the shocking climax of Blowout are just a few examples of the unforgettable and operatic set pieces that Brian de Palma is the master of creating. His imprint of directorial bravado is unmistakable, and the fact that he was an unexpected but ultimately inspired choice to oversee the franchise starter in 1996 is a testament to that.

When Mission: Impossible was first produced, special effects were at their peak, and computer-generated imagery was still a novel technique that was only sometimes employed. Even though it was technically impossible, the climactic helicopter versus. train scenario in Mission: Impossible that took place through the Britain-France Chunnel remains one of the best examples of sheer visual candy to this day.

The most prevalent complaint leveled against the first installment of the Mission franchise is that its storyline is too complicated to comprehend, or even completely incomprehensible. When the entertainment value is this great, it’s difficult to find something to complain about, including that.

10. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

In the most recent episode of El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, three-time Emmy Award winner Aaron Paul reprised his role as the eternally tormented drug kingpin Jesse Pinkman. This episode served as a fitting conclusion to one of the best television shows in history. An original production from Netflix, Vince Gilligan’s widely anticipated follow-up to the criminal thriller Breaking Bad will premiere in 2013.

On the one hand, there is no way to deny the presence of fan service in this scenario. Additionally, this is a form of fan service provided by experts in the medium. It’s difficult to see any fans of Breaking Bad being dissatisfied with this gripping, gritty, and even darkly comedic follow-up. Paul is, without a doubt, fascinating on a zillion different levels.

These are the ten most popular Netflix thrillers right now. Enjoy them. The constant influx of new films into theatres alters the popular taste in thrill flicks on a daily basis. As a result, be sure to check back regularly for any new information….
