6. Yuri on Ice
Yuri on Ice, the figure skating anime created by Sayo Yamamoto and Mitsurou Kubo, is cherished by everyone, including real-life Olympic figure skaters like Miu Suzaki and Adam Rippon. Michiko & Hatchin (2008) and Lupin III’s heartbreakingly beautiful sexploitation spin-off.
The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (2012) was both directed by Yamamoto, a protégé of Shinichiro Watanabe who become a successful director in the last decade or so. Both of these films were released in Japan. Yuri on Ice is what made Yamamoto a star and gave the industry a much-needed voice in an industry that is normally not welcoming toward female directors.
Even though the plot of Yuri On Ice’s hopeful sportsmen may appear to be straightforward, it actually provides Yamamoto with the ideal setting to explore his ongoing curiosity about the intricate and inventive capabilities of human bodies.
7. Thermae Romae Novae
Although the United States premiere of Thermae Romae Novae took place just a few days before the actual start of the spring season, we are going to include this entertaining anime in this roundup as well. A Roman architect named Lucius who is stuck in his creative process is the protagonist of this series.
While he is relaxing in a Roman spa, he is suddenly transported through time and space to a contemporary Japanese bathhouse. When Lucius is sent back to his own period, you may suppose that he is astounded by the straightforward yet sophisticated methods of bathing and that he implements some of these concepts.
If you watch each episode of Thermae Romae Novae for a sufficient amount of time, not only is it an entertaining and unusual show, but it also provides information on Japanese onsens, often known as spas. Netflix is currently streaming all episodes of the show.
8. Mob Psycho 100
Undoubtedly gifted in the psychic arts, Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama is known as “Mob.” Sadly, that’s pretty much it as far as his skills go; he doesn’t have much else going on. Mob Psycho 100 is a psychedelic blend of coming-of-age cliches and Ghost Adventures. It is based on a webcomic written by One (One-Punch Man) and follows Mob as he and his phony tutor Reigen handle otherworldly problems in Seasoning City.
Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, My Hero Academia) is responsible for the show’s animation, which maintains film-quality action sequences and a surreal, technicolor look throughout, but what really sets it apart from the competition is its seemingly forgotten star. The mob is an ordinary boy at the beginning of the story who aspires to have a typical life.
His enthusiasm for experiencing each day to its fullest extent is contagious, and by the time the story is over, he has amassed a sizable group of friends and allies. The zaniness of Mob Psycho 100 may be what initially draws you in, but the occasional moments of emotional insight are what will keep you going back for more.
9. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2
The second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero has arrived, marking the show’s long-awaited comeback. The protagonist of the series is Naofumi, who was transported to another world as one of four heroes who were given the mission of averting an impending catastrophe. Being the Shield Hero came with several drawbacks, all of which contributed to his ultimately going down a shady road.
It would be intriguing to see what season 2 has to offer, especially considering that Naofumi will have a little bit more assistance this time around since the world has calmed down a little bit. Crunchyroll, VRV, Funimation, and Hulu have all recently begun streaming the second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero.
10. Hunter X Hunter
Numerous shonen (and even American TV shows) feature a group of youthful people who use magical talents and deductive thinking to solve problems. It’s rare to come across a Hunter x Hunter among this crowd because of the level of detail and emotional engagement that it exhibits.
Subplots that don’t necessarily result in a significant event, but let you know that characters in this universe existed before you started watching them, are prevalent in this show. Going on a quest to learn how to become a Hunter is the genesis of Hunter x Hunter. However, unlike other shounen characters, he keeps the unpleasant, repetitive chants to himself.
With his unwavering optimism and unwavering commitment to others, he becomes a star of the show. When he befriends a young child who comes from a family of assassins, they form an unlikely bond that propels the show forward. You’ll need to put your heart and soul into this dynamic between these two young men.
When Togashi presents powerful mentors, he highlights their youth and inexperience by placing them against much older, more experienced adversaries. The skills of his characters are meticulously tailored to each individual’s unique personality, but they always get their strength from resolve. You’ll be forever changed by the incredible feats of willpower depicted in this anime.
However, Togashi insists that the manga is far from over and that he is still working on it. The seventh season of the restored anime is expected shortly.
