The Plot of 17 Again

In 1989, Mike O’Donnell’s girlfriend Scarlet Porter tells him she’s pregnant right before his potential scholarship-clinching basketball game. Mike plays a few seconds of the game, then leaves to pursue Scarlet, abandoning his college and professional goals. Mike, now 37, is sedentary and bored, abandoning every endeavor he tries.

Scarlet, his wife, and the mother of their two children filed for divorce, forcing him to live with his nerdy, affluent best friend, Ned Gold. His high school-aged daughters, Maggie, 19, and Alex, 16, want nothing to do with dad after he quits his job after being passed up for a promotion. Later, a janitor on a bridge changes Mike into his 17-year-old self.

Ned believes Mike’s change was caused by a mysterious spirit guide trying to help him. Mike enrolls in high school as Mark Gold, Ned’s son, to get a basketball scholarship. Mike comes to believe that his job is to aid his bullied son and his daughter’s boyfriend, Stan, who torments Alex.

Through their kids, Mike meets Scarlet, who sees his likeness to her husband but dismisses it as a coincidence. Mike decides to mend his relationship with Scarlet by finishing the garden projects he abandoned as an adult. He tries to separate Stan and Maggie and encourages Alex to be more confident to make the basketball team and date Nicole.

Mike can’t resist Scarlet despite their unsuitable relationship. Ned pursues Jane Masterson, the school’s principal, with increasingly lavish pranks. She rebuffs him but agrees to date once he offers to buy laptops for the school.

Jane is dissatisfied with Ned on their date until he discloses he’s a geek. Jane shows her interest in geek culture by speaking Elvish to him, and they hit it off. Mike hosts a basketball party at Ned’s house while Ned is away with Jane, where he confronts Stan, who dumped Maggie for not sleeping with him.

Maggie seduces Mike after he’s knocked out. Mike tells his daughter Maggie that he loves someone else, and she departs. Mike reveals to Scarlet that Alex has finally gotten together with his crush. Mike kisses her during an intense talk. Mike tries to explain his identity, but she rushes out.

On the day of Scarlet and Mike’s divorce hearing, Mike (as Mark) reads a letter to win her back. He says that even if he couldn’t fix things in the past, he still loves her. Scarlet notices the “letter” is actually courtroom directions after he leaves. She delays the divorce a month. Mike decides to pursue a scholarship again after failing to save his marriage.

Mike introduces himself to Scarlet during a basketball game. Mike chases Scarlet like he did in 1989, but not before giving his son the ball. Mike is subsequently changed into his 37-year-old self and reunites with Scarlet, admitting she was his best option.

When Does 17 Again Come Out on Netflix?

Fans of Zac Efron are in for a treat! On January 1st, 2021, Netflix will release 17 Again.

17 Again most certainly appeared on Netflix at some point in the past; but, I cannot recall the specific date or time when the movie was most last available on Netflix.

Fans of the online streaming service will also have a major new reason to watch, and that is because Efron is quickly becoming one of the most prominent new stars on Netflix.

17 again

Down to Earth with Zac Efron was Efron’s self-produced travel/documentary series, in which he starred. Efron and his co-star Daren Olien embark on a journey around the world to investigate different cultures’ approaches to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting the environment.

Netflix is hosting a documentary series that is both really good and entertaining to watch. If you haven’t seen it yet, we can’t speak highly enough about it! We are keeping our fingers crossed that Netflix is hard at work on developing another season of Down to Earth.

When we move closer to the release date, we will make sure to remind you that 17 Again will be available on Netflix on January 1, 2021. Keep an eye out for further updates regarding the upcoming movie and the second season of Down to Earth.
