Virgin River on Netflix is like receiving a warm hug: It’s the perfect cozy drama to warm up with, with small-town trappings(opens in new tab) evocative of Gilmore Girls and Friday Night Lights, and an unforgettable ensemble of characters.
Fans are in agreement: Even though Netflix does not release viewing numbers, the program is successful enough that it was quietly renewed for season four even before the third season of Virgin River was dropped on July 9. According to What’s on Netflix, filming for Virgin River’s fourth season began in late July 2021, only a few weeks after the third season’s release.
Netflix revealed in September, that Virgin River has been renewed not only for a fourth season but also for a fifth. By December, numerous members of the ensemble, including leads Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, had stated that they’d concluded the fourth season, paving the way for a mid-2022 premiere (more on that later!).
It’s hardly surprising that Netflix has high hopes for the show’s long-term success, given that the show is based on the Virgin River book series by Robyn Carr(opens in new tab), which has 25 books. Not to mention, season three rocketed to the top of the charts almost instantly, attracting more than 1.4 million people in its first week, according to Nielson; by the end of its first month.
it was the most-watched video in the country (opens in new tab). Perhaps in response to this demand, promptly approved more episodes for the fourth season, bringing the total number of episodes to 12 instead of the normal 10.

The Cast of Virgin River Season 4
The storyline of Virgin River is notorious for its shocking narrative turns and terrifying cliffhangers, yet in the end, most of our favorite characters are saved from peril. (Beat. On. Wood.) Keeping this in mind, we anticipate that the majority of the original cast of Virgin River will return for season 4.
But this is still Virgin River, so you can expect a few fresh faces to show up in town to mix things up a bit. It has been reported by Deadline that actors Mark Ghanimé and Kai Bradbury have been cast in recurring roles on the show. Fans have actually already encountered the character that Kai plays, Denny Cutler, who appeared at the end of season 3 claiming to be Doc’s long-lost grandson. Denny Cutler was played by Kai.
Remember when we were talking about Doc and how he was trying to find a new doctor to work with? It looks like we’re dealing with Mark here. He will play the role of Dr. Cameron Hayek, the delightful new physician at the clinic. Dr. Hayek is an intelligent, affable, and exceptionally attractive man.
The Plotline of Virgin River Season 4
Mel and Jack are dealing with the aftermath of Mel’s revelation that she is pregnant—but they don’t know if the father of the child is Jack or her late ex-husband Mark. The preacher was poisoned by a former friend of Paige’s to get him out of the way as part of a plot to kidnap Christopher.
The third season of Virgin River ended on cliffhangers(opens in new tab) for many of the characters, including Preacher, who was poisoned During this time, Lizzie broke things off with Ricky and went back to her sleazy ex-boyfriend in Los Angeles after she learned that Ricky was going to join the military;
Brady was arrested as a suspect in Jack’s shooting after a similar gun was found in his car; Charmaine and Todd threatened Jack with an explosive custody battle over the twins; and of course, Hope is in the hospital with a brain injury following a car accident.
According to Martin Henderson (who plays Jack), who was interviewed by The Digital Fix, “Season four reveals and answers all the questions, but then introduces some more.” “There were several cliffhangers, which creates a love/hate dynamic for the viewers, as they love the show but hate having to wait.”
The upcoming season will have a tonne of brand new storylines, while the previous season established a lot of arcs, including the following: There’s a good chance that Ricky will make a choice regarding enlisting in the military, which might result in him leaving Virgin River and Lizzie behind. Mel and Jack will deal with the unknowns of her pregnancy and decide whether or not they can make it work.
For your peace of mind, the actors who play Mel and Jack have made it plain that they will absolutely make it work (opens in a new tab). Paige will most certainly return to the show after being absent for the entirety of the third season, and at that point, we can only hope that she will be reunited with Christopher.
The twins are going to be born to Charmaine, and after that, there will most likely be a confrontation between her and Todd, as well as Jack, who is the biological father of her children. And while we’re on the subject of Jack, we’ll eventually figure out who shot him.
Tenney recently revealed to TV Insider that the upcoming fourth season is going to be an emotional roller coaster from the very first minute. She divulged, “There is a significant bombshell when we begin Season 4 that puts some people in peril.” “When we open Season 4, there will be certain people in jeopardy.” (As if Preacher’s life weren’t already in enough danger.
