Castle was an eight-season American crime mystery/comedy-drama television series that aired on ABC from March 9, 2009, to May 16, 2016. The series was co-produced by Beacon Pictures and ABC Studios.

It chronicles the lives of best-selling mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and homicide detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) as they solve a series of odd crimes in New York City. Andrew W. Marlowe conceived of it. The notion of working with a writer enrages Detective Beckett, who goes to great lengths to avoid him. However, the two develop affections for each other swiftly.

The main premise of the series centred around the two main characters’ romance and their ongoing inquiry into Beckett’s mother’s death. Even though certain cast members had signed one-year contracts for a possible ninth season, the show was cancelled on May 12, 2016.

Those who watched the first season of ‘Castle’ were well aware of the controversy surrounding season 8 and the possibility of a season 9 in 2016. The cast members’ contracts were up for renewal at the end of season seven, and they all chose to do so.

It was reported that Fillion and Katic’s relationship was so bad during Season 8 filming that they went to counselling together. Season 9 was discussed by ABC officials in 2016, however, Katic is said to have quit owing to her difficult relationship with her leading man and the producers.

“Rather than detract from what was a beautiful experience, I’d just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for allowing me to be a part of a widely cherished programme,” Katic stated at the time of her departure via her social media handle. “I appreciate everyone who has helped me.”
