Season 3 of Umbrella Academy: Release Date and Everything You Need to Know

The Umbrella Academy is a superhero streaming television series based on the same-named comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The show was created by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater for Netflix. It revolves around a dysfunctional family of adoptive superheroes who reunite to explore their father’s death and the threat of catastrophe. The film is produced by Borderline Entertainment, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Universal Cable Productions.

Members of the cast include Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castaeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige, John Magaro, Adam Godley, Colm Feore, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, and Kate Walsh. Universal Pictures optioned the adaptation for a feature in 2011. In 2015, it was cancelled in favour of a television series, but Netflix restored it in July 2017. Filming for the series took place in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario.

The first season premiered on Netflix on February 15, 2019. In April 2019, Netflix announced that 45 million households watched season one in its first month, making it one of the most-watched shows of the year. The series has been renewed for a second season, which will be broadcast on July 31, 2020, following the success of the first. Both seasons received positive reviews from critics. In November 2020, the series was renewed for a third season, with the third instalment set to broadcast on June 22, 2022.

The Umbrella Academy’s third season will premiere in 2022.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 will launch on Netflix on June 22. Fans should be aware of this by now. We have yet to see any video in anticipation of the Netflix show’s return, save than a brief teaser that coincided with the third season’s official release date.

However, this could be about to change. Netflix has been ratcheting up its season 3 promotional campaign, revealing new artwork, announcing new cast members, and confirming that Vanya Hargreeves, played by Elliot Page, will come out as transgender in the next episode.

Is there a trailer for The Umbrella Academy’s third season?

Fans were given a teaser trailer along with the announcement of a release date. This comes after the advertising photographs were released in February. If the seven photographs hinted at the tension between the Sparrows and the Umbrellas, the teaser strongly suggests that a confrontation is on the horizon. Given that Sir Reginald Hargreeves raised both types of superhumans, how could it not be? That’s a two-fold increase in emotional instability.

In the clip, the Umbrellas and Sparrows fight to the backdrop of a dramatic musical composition featuring violins (Vanya, weren’t you supposed to kick that habit?). Both Number 1s, Luther Hargreeves (the OG) and Marcus Hargreeves (the leader of the Sparrows and Luther’s lookalike), approach each other with mano-a-mano vigour.

The others appear to be nervous, which is understandable. Ben cricks his neck, as if ready to pounce, and if we’re not incorrect, Marcus was the one who started the charge. Before we can properly confirm, the trailer finishes.

We’re sure we’re not alone in hoping Ben returns to the Umbrella fold, regardless of his new connection. Unfortunately, this preview only gives us a taste of what’s to store in the forthcoming season. This, though, is unquestionably merely a teaser. There aren’t quite enough pieces here to put together a whole picture. As a result, stay tuned; as soon as a full trailer is available, we’ll start playing the violins.

What can we expect from The Umbrella Academy’s third season?

Given that we’ve already dodged the end of the world twice, it’s realistic to expect a third attempt to avoid Armageddon. Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will almost probably involve another end-of-the-world scenario based on the comics, even if it isn’t a pleasant change of pace.

The Sparrow Academy isn’t a brand-new superhero squad developed just for The Umbrella Academy. They were initially unveiled in the last pages of Hotel Oblivion, the most recent graphic novel volume from The Umbrella Academy. It’s still thrilling to see them on television in a live-action situation.

After all, under the the’release date’ section above, we got a sneak peek of season 3. If you’ve never read the comics, this is a hotel-style prison in space where The Umbrella Academy and other heroic characters are holding the galaxy’s most infamous supervillains. Season 3 will introduce some new enemies, so keep that in mind.

Three of the show’s actors, Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, and Emmy Raver-Lampman, have all hinted at “delightful surprises” on the road. Obviously, the trio divulged nothing substantial, but it appears that The Sparrow Academy will be included in those enticing storey points:

Normally, Luther and the rest of the team’s attention would be drawn to The Sparrow Academy’s swaying cube (more on this in a bit). The Sparrows’ vice-captain is revealed to be Ben Hargreeves, the family’s departed brother who sacrificed his life (again) to save Diego, Allison, Klaus, and Vanya in season 2.

No, this isn’t the loving Ben that fans have come to expect; instead, it’s a self-serving and impertinent narrator. Justin H. Min, who plays Ben, has stated that he does not anticipate returning for season 3. Min and the audience were both astonished by this turn of events, given that Ben does not appear to be a member of the Sparrows in the comics:

We might be able to view a few new flashbacks to when The Umbrella Academy’s members were youngsters. Ethan Hwang, who played a young Ben Hargreeves on the show, shared this Instagram photo of himself with Min two seasons ago:

Who will return for The Umbrella Academy’s third season?

Season 3 will feature the return of seven of the series’ core characters:

Colm Feore (Sir Reginald Hargreeves) is set to reprise his role as the surrogate father of both superhero squads. We haven’t heard anything about Adam Godley (Pogo the chimp) and Jordan Claire Robbins (Grace Hargreeves/Mom) returning as alternate-dimension versions of their Umbrella Academy counterparts.

Lila Pitts will be played by Ritu Arya again. On the final day of production for season 3, the actress, who first appeared in season 2, confirmed her return via her Instagram account. As a result, we may expect to see Diego and Lila’s on-again, off-again relationship continue.
