Families with children under the age of five would qualify for a $350 stipend under Romney’s proposed Family Security Act, while families with children ages six to seventeen would qualify for a $250 award.

The legislation also includes a provision allowing expecting parents to begin collecting compensation four months prior to the due date of their kid.

Monthly payments would be capped at $1,250 for families.

Individual taxpayers earning more than $200,000 or couple taxpayers earning more than $400,000 would have $50 deducted from their monthly payments for each $1,000 earned beyond the threshold.

Work Requirements

Work requirements are also included, another contentious aspect of Romney’s plan.

While the details of his plan are unknown, the majority of states with similar systems require beneficiaries of public assistance to perform at least 80 hours per month in either paid jobs, volunteer activities, or training.
