Nintendo Direct saw the company announce that the first two installments of the Front Mission series will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Front Mission 1st remake will be released on the company’s hybrid gaming console sometime during the summer of this year. In addition, the company confirmed that a remake of Front Mission 2 would be released on the Nintendo Switch, though no specific release date or launch window was provided.
Back in 1995, Front Mission was released in Japan on the Super Famicon, but it wasn’t until 2007 that the game was made available to players in the United States when it was ported to the Nintendo DS. While a remake of Front Mission 2 will mark the first time the game has been released outside of Japan since its initial release on the PlayStation in 1997, the game’s original release on the PlayStation was in 1997.

What is the plot of Front Mission 1st Remake?
During the year 2090, giant war machines known as Wanzers will be used to fight all of the world’s conflicts. Huffman Island, the only place on the planet where the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) and the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.) share a land border, is a flashpoint for tensions between the two organizations.
A reconnaissance platoon from the O.C.U., led by Captain Royd Clive, has been assigned to investigate a United States munitions plant. They are ambushed by U.C.S. Wanzers, which sets off a chain of events that causes the entire island to descend into chaos. Lieutenant Karen Meure, Royd’s fiancée, goes missing while serving in the military.
Royd, who has been discharged from the military, sets out to find out what happened to his girlfriend Karen. His investigation leads him closer and closer to the conspiracy that was at the heart of the incident, as well as the forces that orchestrated it.
Front Mission is the classic of the tactical Japanese RPG genre, and it is now finally available to players all over the world thanks to its large cast of characters, mature story, and non-Manichean protagonists.
