Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) were the most entertaining team in the previous year’s IPL, despite missing out on the playoffs. The team led by KL Rahul fought hard in every game and used the last ball to win. Punjab Kings had a sluggish start to the season, but they have since recovered with back-to-back victories.
The franchise introduced with a new brand name in the IPL 2021 auction and had the highest pure value. They pursued down the players they needed and finally caught up with them. Their top picks are Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, and Dawid Malan.
The Punjab team will hope to reach the playoffs and win their first IPL trophy after making some exciting purchases. It will hold the glamourous T20 event behind closed doors at neutral venues for the upcoming edition which will begin on April 9th.
Strength: Top Order
KL Rahul, last season’s Orange Cap winner, will lead the side and bat first, with Mayank Agarwal as his opening partner. The last time they were in the UAE, both players had fantastic performances. Mayank Agarwal enjoyed being in the company of his friend KL Rahul, and IPL 2020 was by far his best IPL to date.
Chris Gayle, the Universe Boss, will back both batsmen. After Gayle was returned to the starting lineup, the team won back-to-back games. Nicholas Pooran will be Gayle’s number four supporter.
Dawid Malan, Sarfaraz Khan, Fabian Allen, and Moises Henriques are among the franchise’s other stars. The hand, which is filled with massive T20 batsmen, seems to be unstoppable.
The novice bowling lineup of the Mohali-based franchise will be a significant concern. Except for Mohammad Shami, none of the PBKS bowlers had any IPL experience. Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin had a strong IPL season last year, but the team is unlikely to use both leg spinners this time.
Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith are recruiting for the Punjab Kings, but neither player has played in Indian conditions. Fabian Allen, who is now with PBKS, was an SRH bench player last season. Arshdeep Singh is also an excellent player on the team. In the upcoming IPL, one recruit will have to step up and turn this weakness into potential.
Opportunities: Arshdeep Singh
The left-arm pacer is in an ideal position to provide support to Mohammad Shami and solidify his position. If he can replicate his IPL 2020 success with dazzling numbers, he can even knock on the doors of the BCCI.
Last season, the pacer took nine wickets in eight games for Punjab Kings. KL Rahul also used Arshdeep Singh in the death overs.
Entire Squad: KL Rahul (Captain), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Deepak Hooda, Prabhsimran Singh, Harpreet Brar, Ishan Porel, Jhye Richardson, Moises Henriques, Riley Meredith, Shahrukh Khan, Mohammed Shami, Chris Jordan, Darshan Nalkande, Ravi Bishnoi, Murugan Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh, Dawid Malan, Pratyush Singh, Jalaj Saxena.

The Punjab Kings will have their work cut out for them, and the road to the playoffs will be tough. However, with a good batting lineup, the team would challenge to beat.
