No Smoking day holds a great significance because of the nature and severity of situation. It needs to be taken with utmost seriousness because it wraps the cause of youth’s health and well being. There are many teens who fall prey to this menace and it’s our moral duty to raise awareness.
No Smoking Day is observed in second week of march each year.
But It has to be on a Wednesday. This year(2021) the day falls on 10th of march. It’s purpose is to make dangers of using tobacco and biddi known to world. It particularly targets the youth that have not even crossed their teenage. This is the prime time in a human’s life where he is vulnerable to any stimulus.
Besides the young ones, the day is also focused on people who have developed a habit of smoking. There are techniques and rehabs available, which help to overcome it. But the thing is, not many know about it. No Smoking Day is a huge responsibility where you can arrest attention and give your words wings.
This year is going to be registered in history because, Union Health ministry is taking serious actions to contain the evil, that is smoking. Initially the allowed age one must have reached was eighteen. That was the number where you could smoke (of course one shouldn’t). But now the Union health ministry has proposed changes in the bill Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003. As per amendment nobody is allowed to sell tobacco or any such product to a person below the age of 21. Another addition to the bill includes punishment for the one who sells cigarettes around educational institutions or schools. Steps like these sure will better the society and help people lead healthy lives.
