 November 11th, 2020, marks the day of the National Education Day, which is celebrated throughout India. In this country, the National Education Day 2020 will be celebrated on November 11th; it is celebrated every year on this day, to honor and commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first ever education minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He served India as the first minister of education in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. He was the education minister from 1947-1958. This memorial day aims at making people aware of the importance of education, literacy and equality.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, or Maulana Sayyid Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al-Hussaini Azad was born on the 11th of November, 1888. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a true reformer and a freedom fighter. He was a renowned scholar and was devoted to building the nation by etching into the minds of the people, the importance of education. Maulana Abul Kalam is considered as the driving element behind IIT’s and several other key institutes of India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development decided in 2008 that the birthday of the former education minister will hereafter be celebrated as the National Education Day, every year. The most wonderful and biggest contribution he has given to the country, is the gift of education, and its essential necessity.

Almost every other educational institute in India remembers Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his contributions to the Indian society as India’s first education minister.
