A 37-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after authorities said he attempted to kidnap a toddler from inside a car at a Costco parking lot.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said the attempted kidnapping was reported at about 3 p.m. at the parking lot of a Costco in Vista. This incident made the local people concerned about the safety of their children even when they are with adults.
What We Know About The Incident
According to SDSO, a woman, her fiancé, and their two young children were in their vehicle, at a parking spot at the Costco on Hacienda Drive near state Route 78. As the car was in backing out, a man opened a rear door and tried to remove a 2-year-old child.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Nanette McMasters said a woman, her fiancée, and their two small children were backing out of a parking stall. Suddenly, the suspect opened the rear vehicle door. The suspect tried to take the 2-year-old child from the car. The child’s parents got out of the car and confronted the suspect, identified as Adam Glavinic.
Suspect Booked Into The Vista Detention Facility
Authorities said Glavinic was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges that included attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance. The investigation is ongoing.
“The incident drew a crowd and a physical confrontation occurred between the father and Glavinic,” said McMasters.
Sheriff’s Employee And Other Witnesses Got Involved
An off-duty sheriff’s employee and other witnesses got involved in the confrontation. They held the suspect until two deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station arrived on the scene.
The suspect and the child’s father got involved in a fight as the incident drew a crowd. An off-duty sheriff’s employee and another witness separated the two until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
