Erikson Lubin vs Terrell Gausha, The first 6 rounds

The initial 6 rounds of the match between Lubin and Gausha were not very edgy. Even though both of them gave each other quite a tough competition, the fight just seemed messy. It looked like Lubin was scoring easy wins all along. However, Gausha tried his best to get some rounds in his pocket, but all in vain! No one expected the match to get interesting further. Everyone had just assumed and accepted Lubin to win and advance to the finals. It was difficult to stay hooked.

The final rounds – 7 to 12

It seemed as if Gausha had given up the idea of winning. His defense wasn’t up to the mark. Moreover, there was hardly any interesting action even though it was a boxing match! Nevertheless, Gausha did make a remarkable comeback after round 8. He beautifully defended himself and gave a tough time to Lubin. He won rounds 9 to 11. Ultimately, Lubin won the last round and the entire match along with that. Lubin’s return in the final round was a good one too.

Post Lubin’s Victory

After the match, when Lubin was asked to rate himself and a few other questions, he said,

I give myself like a B-minus. I think the layoff had something to do with it, but Gausha is a top competitor. He is at the top of his weight class for a reason but I just want to stay active and wait for my title shot.

On being asked about Lubin’s win, Gausha stated,

I take my hat off to Erickson Lubin, he was the better man tonight. I bit down and showed true grit and I have nothing to hang my head for. We both are highly skilled fighters, and we had respect for each other’s game. We were both being cautious and we knew we couldn’t get hit by each other.

Lubin, who is also known as The Hammer, mentioned that Charo had a full chance to win the match if he fights like Lubin fought in this game. He further admitted that he was a much better fighter than the last time he faced Charo. Lubin improved to 5-0 since a first-round knockout loss to Charlo in their title fight in 2017.
