Apple Watch has been launched watchOS 7 and iOS 14 adding one more feature to the watch to count down the time when you need to wash hands and accordingly remind you to wash your hands as soon as you get home after being outside. People are thinking that whether this handwashing feature is in response to COVID-19 or just planned before. But as per the Apple, the handwashing feature has been developed working for years. It’s functioning is based on the principle of detecting noises and hand movements. Whenever the microphone of the watch detects any splashing and the motion sensor – hands rubbing cumulatively, the Apple Watch starts the timer correspondingly.

Apple Watch: To set up handwashing

There are some basic steps listed below to set up your Apple Watch for the feature of the handwashing:-

  • Firstly open the Watch app on the partner iPhone and then go to Settings.
  • On the first screen, the list of available apps will be there. You will find the app placed in between Noise and Health.
  • Now you have to just activate the handwashing feature. In the Watch app’s settings, you will also find the Timer for handwashing controller for more settings.

To set a reminder

New Apple has one more feature with the option of the reminders for handwashing.  This setting of the app will remind you that you have been home for only a few minutes ahead and will automatically remind you to wash your hands on reaching your home. For this to feature to activate you will need to ratify your location being used by the handwashing app. Select allow the location when you are using the app. Now the Watch will recognize that you are at home and it will frequently remind you for washing your hands.

Measures of hand washing

Whenever the Apple Watch recognizes it that you are washing your hands then it will conventionally send you the tactual feedback to your wrist. You will see a schematic timer set on the app with soap bubbles appear on the screen of the watch during washing your hands. After 20 seconds of washing hands, you will see a thumbs up there on the screen.
