Road rage on I-15 in Las Vegas, woman was shot to death

On early Wednesday, a woman was found shot to death in her vehicle on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. Authorities speculate it may have been a killing instigated by road rage.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported about 12:08 a.m. to the scene. As per the Metropolitan Police Department, it was thought to be a two-vehicle crash following the woman had a medical episode in the interstate’s southbound lanes at Flamingo Road.  The woman was found driving a blue Nissan Versa.

What Did The Las Vegas Police Say About The Victim?

“When the coroner arrived on scene around 4 a.m. and began to examine the body, the coroner discovered the victim, who is … a female in her late 30s, had a gunshot wound,” Lt. Ray Spencer of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said. Spencer stated that the woman worked at a casino in the downtown area and was driving home.

Police figured out that the woman was shot in the head while she was driving. Her car then clashed with a Dodge Charger traveling south on I-15. The driver of the Charger was not involved in the shooting. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Someone driving a Dodge Charger reported the Nissan “came out of nowhere,” taking their car to “T-bone” the Nissan.

Homicide Detectives Were Called To Investigate

Homicide detectives were brought to the scene of Las Vegas to investigate and arbitrate that the woman was heading south on I-15 when she was shot at some point in time. As per Spencer, there is a possibility that the shooting took place further north on the freeway, and detectives speculate road rage might have been a factor.

Southbound I-15 was closed at Flamingo for almost the entire morning, with cars given direction to exit the freeway at Spring Mountain Road. Traffic backed up as far north as Lake Mead Boulevard. The freeway was resumed by about 10:25 a.m.

Spencer Further Added

Spencer says Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are going through the surveillance video from the nearby casinos to gather more information.

“What we’re trying to determine is what led up to the shooting. What we’re believing at this point and it is speculation, that it’s probably a road rage type incident. That’s why we’re asking anybody who has any information, who may have seen an altercation between the victim vehicle and another vehicle that led up to the shooting,” Spencer said.
