Jim Carrey is the new man in Rockefeller Center. The actor, 58, has been offered to play 2020 Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden on the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live, is set to premiere on October 3. Jim Carrey, the comedian is following the steps of Jason Sudeikis and Woody Harrelson, who played the roles in prior seasons. NBC confirmed the news on Wednesday. “There was some interest on his part,” EP Lorne Michaels told about casting Carrey. “And then we responded, obviously, positively. But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and [head writer/cast member] Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well.”

Finally Saturday Night Live is returning in October with all-new episodes

With elections, this year and the world is literally and figuratively on fire, so we need some laughs so, Saturday Night Live here to entertain us. And since the show is clearly gonna handle the presidential race. You know that means we need a strong Joe Biden impressionist to stand up against Alec Baldwin’s take on Donald Trump. And that impression is coming in the form of Jim Carrey! The famous roles Jim Carrey portrayed like Ace Ventura and the Grinch were never an official cast member but he’s hosted the show twice.

Jim Carrey: An Unexpected Choice For The Role Of Joe Biden

Jim Carrey is an unexpected choice to play Biden contemplating that he’s not a part of the cast and that previous cast member Jason Sudeikis is known for playing Biden. Furthermore, Saturday Night Live has been introducing outside talent to play roles over the last four years. This includes Robert de Niro as Robert Mueller, Brad Pitt as Antony Fauci, and, last but not the least, Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump. Saturday Night Live usually bags more attention during election years. And adding Carrey into the mix with Baldwin’s Trump should add some buzzy moments as the show takes on the debates and other news surrounding the election.

Limited Live Audience Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

On Wednesday the other significant news for Saturday Night Live is that the show is set to return in front of a live audience again. Saturday Night Live is preparing on having “a limited in-studio audience” at Rockefeller Center for this season. It’s 46th on television, NBC announced. It’ll be the first time Saturday Night Live has broadcasted from Studio 8H since March due to coronavirus pandemic.
