Victoria Azarenka defeats Serena Williams in US open semifinal

The history is created when Victoria Azarenka beats Serena Williams. She was beaten by 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals of the US Open. On Thursday her chance of winning on home soil vanished. Thus she lost the chance of winning 24th Grand Slam singles titles this year. On Saturday Belarusian Azarenka will play third finals. This will be played in Japan’s Naomi Osaka. The game will be at Flushing Meadows. Even she lost the previous two to Williams in 2012 and 2013. However, Serena Williams was already struggling to keep up in the fast-paced US Open semifinals. Also, she was stopped behind the baseline after a third-set point. In that, she was leaned over. She even held that pose for a bit. Later clutched at her left ankle and asked for a trainer. This left her in vain.

While she took a medical timeout for a tape her title slipped off. Her opponent Victoria Azarenka sat in a sideline by the time. She was seen calm and composed as she can be, with her eyes close. Later after five minutes of delay, Serena Williams came back. She raised the force of her shots and the volume of her shouts. But it was Azarenka who finished off the victory. She later returned to major championship finals. This was the first time since 2013 that this situation happened. This loss to Williams left her just short of No 24 again. This was considered as Williams’ fourth consecutive three-setter in New York. Although she was far better at the outset on Thursday, racing to a lead of 4-0 inside of 15 minutes. That time Azarenka eventually did get going.

Now on Saturday Azarenka will face Osaka for the championship in a meeting. This will be between two-time major champions who have both been ranked No 1 in the past. This has been by far the two best players since tennis resumed. This will be of the Western and Southern Open. A hard-court event which has moved from Ohio to New York.

Ashe is one of only two courts at the US Open using line judges this year. The pandemic has totally changed the situation and view of the players. Just to reduce the number of people on-site, the tournament used electronic lines. This will also include other areas as well.
