A quick recap, Thiem vs Cilic

On Saturday night an interesting match took place at the US Open between two strong players coming from two different but beautiful countries. Marin Cilic from Croatia became the opponent of the Austrian player namely, Dominic Thiem. An inspired fight was carried out by both the players. However, the output of the match fell in the favour of Dominic Thiem who made an excellent win against the 2014 champion Marin Cilic. The points which were visible on the scoreboard in their third-round clash were 6-2, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. The Croatian player Cilic got rattled by Thiem’s relentless retrieving and made several errors from his normally reliable forehand wing. Both the players were capable of hitting six winners in the first set, but Thiem made only two unforced errors while unfortunately, Cilic hit 13.

The winner’s statement

Although the form of the Austrian tennis player has appeared to be patchy at times. He is making continuous and hard efforts to improve his game and his efforts are definitely paying off as Dominic has emerged as a top contender for the respective title. After the match the player was asked several questions, in response he said “I think the quick start was more because of him. He had two very tough rounds and was a little bit slow in the beginning. I took all of my chances. Today was a good win against a great champion, so that should give me a boost”.

“I’m not 100 percent yet. I still have to raise my level if I want to go deeper. I’m normally capable of doing this in the Slams [and] hopefully here as well,” the player concluded.

Further matches

Further, Thiem will have a face-off with No. 15 seed Felix Auger Aliassime, who has been extremely successful in radiating his abilities through his previous matches. On talking about the next head-to-head meeting with the Canadian player, Thiem said “The whole package is great. He’s a great player, a great person outside of the court. I think he has huge star potential. Unbelievable athlete, good looking. He has everything basically. The only thing to my advantage is experience. This is his first fourth round at a Slam, so hopefully, I can play that out a bit. It’s going to be a nice one and I’m looking forward to it.” It will be extremely fascinating to witness a face-off between two massive players.
