Joel Kiviranta capped a hat-trick for Stars, gave Dallas a 5-4 victory. In a challenging face-off between Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, the Stars had an unexpected Game 7 victory, which sent them further than they have ever been in 12 years. All credits to Joel Kiviranta!

Joel Kiviranta’s miraculous hat-trick

In his only game during the series, Joel Kiviranta managed to score a hat-trick 7 minutes 24 seconds into overtime and stunned everyone. This hat-trick led to a marvelous victory with a final score of 5-4. Dallas Stars will now be playing at the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2008.

“Pretty unreal. This is what you dream about when you’re a young kid,” Kiviranta said. “I played the first Game 7 of my life. I didn’t know what to expect. Maybe their D just lost me a little bit. They didn’t know who was picking me up. I tried to find a soft spot. It was a great pass.”

“What Kivi did was pretty spectacular,” captain Jamie Benn said. “Those are the things you dream about when you’re a kid when you’re playing in the driveway and whatnot. That just became a reality for him.”Joel Kiviranta ended up being the unlikely Game 7 hero and stunned the Avalanche.

A neck-to-neck competition

The Stars managed to get a lead within the first 2 minutes and 39 seconds itself. Unfortunately, the lead did not last for more than one minute. Vladislav Namestnikov scored the first goal and tied the score at 1-1. The second goal for the Avalanche was scored by Andre Burakovsky six minutes later.

About 3 minutes into the second period, Kiviranta scored the first goal of the hat-trick series and bumped the score up to 2-2. Soon after, Nazem Kadri scored another goal for the Avalanche and they were up by another point.

Radulov scored another goal for the Stars after what could have been a cost penalty. With only 3 and a half minutes remaining in the third period, Namestnikov hit another goal and tied the score yet again.

When all hope was lost, Kiviranta surprisingly scored another goal at the very end and the game was officially pushed into overtime. This was the second goal of Kiviranta’s hat-trick series, and he sure took his sweet time to achieve it. Finally, after 7 minutes into overtime, he scored the third goal, and the Dallas Stars had a new achievement. So far in his NHL career, Kiviranta scored one goal and zero assists in 11 regular-season games.
