Amy Sohn at BookCourt Tuesday
Amy Sohn will speak about her newest book, Prospect Park West, at BookCourt tomorrow at 7pm. Could be pretty exciting if Smartmom shows up. From BookCourt:
Brooklyn’s famed Park Slope neighborhood has it all: sprawling, majestic Prospect Park; acclaimed public schools; historic brownstones; and progressive values. Among bohemian bourgeois breeders, claiming a stake in Park Slope has become a competitive sport.
In the park, at the coffee shops, and on the playgrounds of the neighborhood, four women’s lives come together during one long, hot Brooklyn summer. Melora Leigh, a two-time Oscar-winning actress, frustrated with her career and the pressures of raising her adopted toddler, feels the seductive pull of kleptomania; Rebecca Rose, missing the robust sex life of her pre-motherhood days, begins a dangerous flirtation with a handsome neighborhood celebrity; Lizzie O’Donnell, a former lesbian (or “hasbian”), wonders why she is still drawn to women in spite of her sexy husband and adorable baby; and Karen Bryan Shapiro finds herself consumed by two powerful obsessions: her four-year-old son’s well-being and snagging the ultimate three-bedroom apartment in a wellmaintained, P.S. 321-zoned co-op building. As the women’s paths intertwine (and sometimes collide), each must struggle to keep her man, her sanity…and her playdates.
From the perennially hot author and columnist Amy Sohn comes a smart, sexy, satirical peek into the bedrooms and hearts of Prospect Park West.
MTA Agent at Carroll Street Station Saved
This just in from Assemblywoman Joan Millman’s office: The station agent at the President Street entrance of the Carroll Street subway station will continue to work there as construction work on the Second Place entrance begins.
“With the closing of the 2nd Place entrance for up to a year due to construction and the subsequent increased ridership at the President Street entrance, it is critical for rider safety to have a Station Customer Assistance agent present there in the event of an emergency,” Millman said.
The Second Place entrance will be closed starting September 15th due to construction at 360 Smith Street; however, the entrance at 2nd Street will remain open. The MTA will retain the current hours of SCA staffing (6:00 AM until 9:15 PM, Monday through Saturday) at the President Street entrance until the 2nd Place entrance can be safely reopened.
9/11, eight years later

Additionally, the 76th Precinct will conduct a brief memorial service commermorating the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks beginning at 8:30 am in front of the 76th Precinct Stationhouse (191 Union Street).
LICH Doctor Says Seasonal Allergies Could Limit Your Love Life
According to MSN News:
THURSDAY, Sept. 10 (HealthDay News) — Having allergies can take a toll on your sex life, new research shows.
When polled, 83 percent of people with allergic rhinitis said it affected their sexual activity at least sometimes, with almost 18 percent of those affected saying their allergies nearly always got in the way of a satisfying sex life.
The article cites a study conducted by the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, but quotes Dr. Clifford Bassett, clinical assistant professor of medicine at LICH/SUNY as saying the finding “makes sense…based on what patients report to him. ‘If people have a runny, drippy nose and feel unsexy, they might be embarrassed by what would be normal intimate contact,’ he said.” Continue Reading →
