Eyewitness News was live in Carroll Gardens just an hour ago, where the body of a dead female who suffered several stab wounds was taken away on Degraw Street. There were no specifics of exactly where on Degraw Street the body, which was discovered at 6:30 this morning, was found. The Brooklyn Eagle has details.

by Diana Rosenthal on 27. Feb, 2009 in Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Events, Government
Don’t forget! Senator Daniel Squadron has organized the first-ever 25th Senate District Community Convention. This is a chance to see if Sqaudron is living up to promises he made at last year’s Brooklyn Heights Blog “The Great Debate.” From the official announcement, on behalf of the Cobble Hill Association:
Join Senator Squadron, elected officials and more than [...]

Ben Kweller comes back home
by Diana Rosenthal on 26. Feb, 2009 in Arts and Entertainment, Carroll Gardens, Celebrity Residents, Events
Former Cobble Hillbilly Ben Kweller performed at Town Hall last night, putting on as amazing a show as always. In addition to the original Trio on the Traintrack, the band now has a steel guitar player to go with the new “country”-like record. Kweller’s two-and-a-half-year-old son (a Cobble Hill native!) popped onto the stage during [...]

Frank Bruni on Buttermilk Channel
by Diana Rosenthal on 25. Feb, 2009 in Carroll Gardens, Food
Seems like The New York Times is all about Brooklyn cuisine this week, as Frank Bruni provides commentary on a slide show of the restaurant. Bruni calls the pecan pie sundae that I fell in love with a month ago,”one of the restaurant’s great dishes.” Check out the slide show for the picture. It’s amazingness can [...]
Brooklyn’s New Culinary Movement
by Diana Rosenthal on 25. Feb, 2009 in Carroll Gardens, Food, News
The New York Times covers Brooklyn’s “new culinary movement,” featuring restauranteurs from all around the borough, and not overlooking the Franks of Frankies 457 and Prime Meats.
“Pre-industrial revolution tactics with food,” is how Frank Castronovo describes what he and Frank Falcinelli are up to at Prime Meats, a restaurant, specialty shop and butcher they are [...]
Sewage issues on Warren Street
by Diana Rosenthal on 24. Feb, 2009 in Carroll Gardens, Uncategorized
Looks like there are some issues with the sewage system on Warren Street at the corner of Court. The street is dug WAY down… hopefully rats don’t take over the neighborhood tonight. Anyone know what’s going on?
Check out just how deep it is after the jump.

According to the Daily News, if the MTA board awards a $179 million contract to rebuild the Culver Viaduct at a meeting tomorrow, it can mean shuttle buses for riders between the Smith-9th Sts. and 4th Ave.-9th St. stations. The Culver Viaduct is the crumbling concrete and steel structure above local streets and the Gowanus Canal.

Brooklyn Paper Scribe Mad at Zanes, Jesus in That Order
by Homer Fink on 24. Feb, 2009 in Arts and Entertainment
The Brooklyn Paper’s “Thurston Dooley III” has an issue with Cobble Hillbilly/kid’s music star Dan Zanes‘ alleged spiritual turn on his new album. The scribe claims that the wild haired troubador has “gone Dylan” on The Welcome Table (in stores 2/27), a reference to the folk Godfather’s born-again stance on his 1979 release Slow [...]
