McCord Van Kempens to Write Parenting Book

The New York Post reports that Cobble Hillbilly/Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord and husband Simon van Kempen will be writing a book on parenting.  If that doesn’t sound annoying enough here’s what she tells the Post: “It’s not about how to discipline. It’s about things like how to get a passport for an infant when you don’t have a birth certifi cate yet…”It’s gonna be fun.”

Lucali takes the cake for best pie

lucali

NYC Food Guy visited Grimaldi’s, Franny’s, and Lucali to determine Brooklyn’s best pizza, and our very own Lucali came out on top. This was just part one of the quest to find Brooklyn’s best pizza, but I don’t think much could stand up to Lucali (except for DiFara, the king himself).

McCain Supporter Victim of Tire Cutting in Boerum Hill

Gowanus Lounge reports that supporters of John McCain may have fallen victim to  vandalism in the form of tire cutting and swastikas traced into their car. Boo to whoever took it upon themselves to declare these folks unworthy of driving due to their political convictions. I wonder how this crime would play out differently in Park Slope… are Maclaren carriage wheels slash-able?

Holiday-themed weekend events

There are a few good reasons to brave the snow this weekend: breakfast with Santa, last minute shopping while benefiting charity, or partying while shopping with champagne and a DJ…

Bring your kids over to Union Smith Cafe (305 Smith Street at the corner of Union) on Saturday morning for Breakfast with Santa. Be sure to call 718-643-3293 ahead of time to make a reservation for one of the two seatings – Santa’s early visit to the neighborhood could possible be in high demand.
After breakfast with the star of the holiday season, cross the street to get some holiday gifts at the Brooklyn Indie Market during its Shop to End Hunger event. This weekend, the Brooklyn Indie Market (a collective of fashion and product designers on the corner of Smith and Union Streets) will donate 15- 20% of its proceeds from sales to St John’s Bread and Life, Brooklyn’s largest emergency food provider. Even better, the percentage will be doubled my a matching grant from Independence Community Foundation.
Now that you’ve done something for charity, do something for yourself. Lee Lee’s Valise (368 Court Street at the corner of President) is holding a Holiday Disco Extravaganza shopping event, complete with a DJ and champagne this Saturday. From 4-7pm, Lee Lee’s Valise is offering special sale prices along with disco tunes, making your shopping experience a truly festive event.
