B’Stoner: Trader Joe’s Comin’, Shut Yer Piehole

Responding to last week’s “anonymous” comment on CHB, Brownstoner actually picked up a telephone and talked to TwoTrees. Yes, “Mr. B” (we’re big fans) has the ability to do such things as “fact checking” because THE BLOG IS HIS JOB. Us? We have to wear slacks during the day and work for the man. Here come “the facts”:

Brownstoner: A representative for Two Trees, however, says the chatter is a lot of hooey, and that the store will eventually open. “The rumor is, well, just a rumor,” says the rep. No word, however, on when TJ’s is actually going to set up shop. The natives are getting restless, Joe!

Update: Homer Fink, our boss, has received a response from Trader Joe’s. But before we get to that, let’s just say he’s really pissed at us for not “checking sources”.  Then he went off a tangent about some dudes named Woodstein and Bernward and stuff. Anyhew, here’s what TJs tells Homer: Continue Reading →

Trader Joe Map Flap

Trader Joe’s has not responded to CHB’s inquiries but let’s say the fact that the its  mapping of the new Court Street location on its website is confirmation that the store is still a “go” for this Spring.

So, that has us thinkin’ — who would be motivated enough to post a rumor like that? How would our favorite TV detectives — Columbo and Monk — solve this caper? Well the first thing to ask is who has the most to lose from TJ’s opening in the nabe? The store sells wonderful prepared foods, has a world reknown house wine as well as gourmet products. The opening of Trader Joe’s on Court and Atlantic will without a doubt be a game changing event for the area food business.

What do you think?

Claim: Court Street Trader Joe’s Dead

2007_07_independance-thumb.jpgThere are times when we’re glad that CHB is just a blog. Why? Heck, we don’t have to abide by some of the rules of “regular” journalism — you know checking facts and stuff. But we will ask that you take this “report” with a grain of salt (unless we’re right, then tell everyone you read it here first). An anonymous post claims:

I work for TJ’s at 14th st store and we were officlally told the store is not coming. Management could not agree with the terms by Two Trees. We heard it was bad.. Management is looking for another location in Brooklyn, maybe around Red Hook area.

Again, let us reiterate that this is an ANONYMOUS post and this is UNCONFIRMED.  And of course, there’s a commenter over at McBrooklyn who IDENTIFIED themselves and claims the TJs is set to open this Spring. But the whole thing going sideways sure is plausible, eh?
