Trader Joe’s – Haunted?

McBrooklyn does a little digging into the Brooklyn Eagle archives and comes up with the theory that the new Trader Joes, opening in the old Independence Community Bank building, is haunted:

Mc Brooklyn: According to an old story in the Brooklyn Eagle, “Some say the phantasm is one of the tortured souls who perished on the site when it held a fort during the Revolutionary war. Others claim it is the demented spirit of the sister of a bank teller who was executed more than a century ago for forgery…”

The dark doorway, seen on the back wall, left, of the photo above, leads down several flights of stairs to chambers far below the ground, where the air is cold and there’s no one to hear you.

The Serpent of Cobble Hill

Pitstop owner Nadege Brunacci got a big surprise when she arrived home early Monday morning — a python in her toilet:

NY Daily News: Traumatized by 7 Foot Python: While washing her hands, she glanced back at the toilet to find a 7-foot-long python staring back at her.

“I turned on the light and screamed, ‘Oh, my God!’” said the hiss-sterical restaurateur. “It still makes my heart race.”

She slammed down the lid, put a heavy box on top of it and began calling city agencies.

Most didn’t believe her, and the ones that did told her, “We don’t do snakes,” she said.

Finally, the FDNY and her landlord came to the rescue.

The paper reports that plumbers had to do a little demolition in the apartment below Brunacci to free the snake from the pipes. “I was anxious about it getting flushed and never coming out,” Valerie Ross, 41, who lives in that apartment tells the News, “I’m happy it’s out. Now I’m just unhappy about the holes in my pipes.”

Biblical Menu at Miriam’s

untitled-1.jpgBack in March, The Hill Diner flipped to Miriam and those familiar with Refael Hasid’s other branch of the eatery in Park Slope rejoiced.

Now there’s even more reason for celebration, as the restaurant is featuring a “Biblical Menu” for the month of October.

CHB Newshound “GJM” recently sampled the menu which features Ezekiel Bread, Jacob’s Stew and Jesus’ Grilled Fish. He tells us, “I may not be building an ark anytime soon, but I will return to Miriam before the end of the month!”
