76th and 84th Precinct Police Blotter – 6/19/09

bugleblotterThis week’s blotters got sidelined in the hubbub of breaking Busted Chef news, but not forgotten. Here, finally, are your blotters:

Cops arrested two punks for stealing iPods and cellphones from two victims — the first of whom identified the punks during the second crime. The first incident happened at 11 pm on June 8 just outside the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station, when eight perps surrounded two guys and asked to use their cellphones. Two punks then hit the victims in the head, grabbed their backpacks, and raced away southbound on Hoyt Street. Cops came to the scene and drove around the neighborhood with the two victims, looking out for the perps.

An hour later: victory. As the cops and victims were canvassing, they discovered the hoodlums at it again on Livingston Street, between Bond Street and Hanover Place, where they had just asked a victim to use his phone. One perp said he had a knife and the second said he had a gun, so the victim handed over his phone without a fight. The cops jumped out of the squad car and chased the perps, arresting two of the three perps, ages 14 and 15.

Weekly crime blotter: 6/9/09

bugleblotter-300x171

There were several robberies in the subway this week — and a small victory for Brooklynites who cars have been stolen borough-wide. For more neighborhood crimes, see Brooklyn Heights Blog.

First up, cops recovered one of the stolen cars from last week’s BHB blotter. A perp stole a man’s Honda sedan from the corner of Adams and Sands street on May 26, but cops found it two days later on Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene. The only thing missing was the car’s radio and spare key, and cops said the thieves didn’t break any windows, locks, or the ignition.

On June 3, just before 4 pm, a punk reached over to a fellow G-train straphanger and snatched her iPhone from her hands. The perp then darted out of the train at the Bergen Street station.

A churchgoing thief stole $3,500 from a woman’s purse at a Bergen Street church on June 2, just before 5 pm. The victim told cops she left her purse on a table in the church’s lobby, which is between Nevins Street and Third Avenue, but when she turned around five minutes later, the cash was gone.

A perp stole a rented car on June 1 that was parked on Dean Street, scoring — however inadvertently — a brand new swing set that the driver had just purchased for his toddler. The victim told cops he left the car between Third and Fourth avenues at 2 pm, but when he came back four hours later, everything was gone. The perp also acquired the man’s car seat.

76th and 84th Precinct Police Blotter 6/3/09

bugleblotterIn an incident sure to haunt you, an aggressive panhandler attacked a 13-year-old boy on Smith Street just after 8 am on May 26. The boy was walking to school along Smith Street, when he passed the panhandler between Wyckoff and Bergen streets. The man asked the boy for money, who said he didn’t have any and kept walking. That’s when the perp grabbed the boy’s arm, held it tightly, and said, “You are lying. Now, give me money.” The boy pulled out a dollar bill from his pocket and handed it over, but the man replied, “You have more money than that.” The boy ran away and went to school, and told cops the man was black and about 5’5”, and weighed 160 pounds.

76th and 84th Precinct Police Blotter 5/19/09

bugleblotterThere were two shocking crimes in the neighborhood this week — a violent mugging and a subway slashing.

First, three punks mugged a 56-year-old man on May 13, punching and kicking him before stealing his wallet. The incident happened in front of a Wyckoff Street parking lot, near Court Street, at 3:50 pm. The man was walking with a friend when the kids jumped him, and then fled eastbound down Wyckoff.

And then, on May 15, a 14-year-old girl was on the northbound R-train at 7:30 pm when a man came up to her and tried to steal her Sidekick cellphone from her hand. The girl refused, and the man pulled out a knife and slashed her hand, before darting out of the car at the Pacific/Fourth Avenue subway station. The girl left go, and called cops when she got home.

76th and 84th Precincts crime blotters

It was a quiet week in the 76th precinct, and there weren’t any crimes at all in the Cobble Hill area. The 84th Precinct blotter did have a few incidents in the Boerum Hill area, and for incidents in Brooklyn Heights and Downtown, check out Brooklyn Heights Blog. Here’s a round-up:

Cops nabbed a 49-year-old perp after he stole a spirited elderly man’s laptop, as the victim was walking along Pacific Street on his way to get the computer fixed. The incident happened on April 20 at 10 am, when the perp pushed the victim to the ground just as he reached Hoyt Street. The perp grabbed the computer, and ran eastbound on Pacific Street, but the 70-year-old man leapt up and chased the perp. Cops joined in the foot chase soon after, and apprehended the thug.

Two roommates were robbed on April 15, after a man broke into their Court Street apartment within a two-hour window and made of with two laptops. One victim left the apartment, which is between State and Schermerhorn streets, at 6 pm. But by the time he came back at 8, his front door had been broken open and the computers were gone.

Another burglar broke into a woman’s Atlantic Avenue apartment on April 15, prying open her door with a crowbar and stealing two laptops and a pair of diamond earrings. The woman left her apartment, which is between Clinton and Court streets, at 10 am, but when she got home later that evening, her door had been smashed and her things were gone.

A woman arrived home on April 15 to her Nevins Street apartment, only to discover a man trying to pick her front door lock. The incident happened at 10:30 pm, near Wyckoff Street. The man quickly left the scene, and the woman immediately called a locksmith to change the locks. Then, she called the cops.

Burglars broke into a Court Street catering service on April 15, cleaning out the store’s cash boxes and stealing two laptops. The incident happened overnight, and when an employee got to the store — which is between Wyckoff and Bergen Streets — at 6 am the next morning, he noticed that a perp had unlocked the door, broken into the office, and smashed through the safe. All told, the perp stole $18,230 in cash, two chef knives, a briefcase, and the computers.

On April 13, a thief stole a man’s Honda motorcycle, which was parked on Wyckoff Street, near Smith Street. The man left his bike at 11:30 am, but when he came back an hour later it was already gone.

76th and 84th precincts’ Crime Blotter

Here’s a round-up of last week’s crime in the Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Boerum Hill area:

A perp broke into a woman’s jeep on April 2, after she parked it overnight on Tompkins Place, between Kane and DeGraw streets. The thug smashed through the driver’s side window, and stole over $3,500 worth of electronics, a GPS, and the woman’s expensive sunglasses. Cops were able to recover the goods, but it was unclear whether they arrested the man or if they found them discarded elsewhere.

A thug punched a 15-year-old kid twice in the mouth in an attempt to mug him, but didn’t get any goods. The incident happened on April 8 at 3:30 pm, when the boy was walking southbound on Smith Street, near Dean Street. As he approached the corner, the perp grabbed him and punched him, which later required emergency dental surgery. The perp fled the scene, but cops are reviewing surveillance tapes to try and identify him.

A robber stole a woman’s wallet in the Trader Joe’s supermarket on Court Street on April 8. The woman told cops she was returning an item around 1 pm and put her wallet back in her bag when the transaction was done. But when she reached into her bag later, she realized that the wallet was gone.

Cops arrested a 17-year-old boy after he beat up a classmate outside Cobble Hill High School on April 8. The incident happened at 12:30, when the perp approached his victim, said, “What do you have in your pocket?,” and then grabbed the boy’s pants. The victim said, “That’s my wallet,” and held onto it through his pant leg. The perp wrestled the wallet from his 15-year-old prey, but cops caught up with him, recovered the wallet and made the arrest.

Cops arrested a perp on April 9 after he stole a woman’s iPod from her hand as she got out of the F-train at Bergen Street. The incident happened at 6:30 pm, and cops grabbed the 17-year-old perp as he darted out of the station, recovering the woman’s iPod.

Weekly crime report

Update: We just spoke with the officers at the 76th precinct, and have the following two crimes to add to this week’s blotter:

House arrest
A perp broke into a President Street house on March 23 while the owner was at home alone in the basement. The incident happened around 10:15 am, when the woman heard footsteps above her and ran upstairs. But by htat point, the burglar had fled the scene — and taken her purse, laptop, iPhone, and $200 cash with him. Cops said the burglar got into the top-floor apartment, which is between Henry and Clinton streets, by climbing up the fire escape and breaking into a back window.

Cold, hard cash
A hoodlum on the sidewalk mugged a woman as she was driving down Clinton Street on March 25. The incident happened at 8 pm when the woman turned right onto Verandah Place, and noticed that a man had been following her from the sidewalk for about a block. As she turned, he walked into the street and blocked her path. He then put his hand in his pocket, acted like he had a gun, and said, “Give me your cash. Don’t scream, or I’ll shoot you.” The woman reached into her purse and pulled out $21, handed it calmly to the man, and watched as he fled eastbound down Verandah Place.

The following crimes are from the 84th precinct’s crime blotter:

Gunpoint mugging
A man mugged a woman at gunpoint on March 27 just as she was walking into her Dean Street apartment building. The incident happened around 2:40 pm when the woman started to open her door, which is near Nevins Street, when suddenly the man appeared next to her, pulled out a black handgun, and told her to go into her house.
The victim told cops he told her, “Give me your money and get down on the floor.” The woman complied, and handed him her wallet, iPod, laptop, Blackberry, and purse.
Cops are looking for the man, who the woman described as a medium-skinned Hispanic man with a mustache and short curly brown hair, who weighs 140 pounds and is 5’5”.
