Ah! The steel drums, the calypso dancers… Marty! That was the dreamy scene SIX MONTHS ago when a friggin PARADE announced that Trader Joe’s would open at the corner of Atlantic and Court.. you know in that old bank building. Well here we sit and still — NOTHIN’! The folks at Racked, who don’t have day jobs, have started diggin’:
Racked: Contacted for comment, Two Trees’ PR informed us that they were unsure of when construction on the grocery store would begin. In the meantime, the natives are getting restless, and angry at the speed that Two Trees’ huge luxury rental building is rising behind the TJ’s site. Look, the people need their frozen Biryani curried rice and their chili-lime white corn tortilla chips. How much longer will they be made to wait?

I doubt Trader Joe’s will ever open in the neighbohood. I think it is payback by Wallentas for the neighborhoods opposition to the size of his new building. i think he will make the bank space into rentals by dropping floorslabs in and creating cookie cutter studios that rent for 3000 a month and then lease out the ground floor to a faith-based group or an African-American halfway house or some other use that will drive the Cobble Hillers crazy.
I work for TJ’s at 14th st store and we were officlally told the store is not coming. Management could not agree with the terms by Two Trees. We heard it was bad.. Management is looking for another location in Brooklyn, maybe around Red Hook area.
I work for WalMart in Iowa and we were officially told that we bought the Target store on Atlantic Avenue.
