Worst. Preschool. Ever.

The NY Daily News reports today on the drama at The Brooklyn Children’s Academy Preschool. It’s been nothing but trouble since the operation moved out of Brooklyn Heights and into 25 Dean Street:

NY Daily News: Parents Rip Unsafe Preschool: A Boreum Hill preschool has been closed down by the city for unsafe conditions – and parents and teachers have been left with the troubles.

The Brooklyn Children’s Academy Preschool owes them more than $50,000, they said.

Parents and teachers also are worried the school’s executive director, Andy Lewis, won’t face any consequences.

“Six months from now, he’ll say he can do it right this time,” said parent Hemalee Patel. “There’s a desperate need for child care in this area of Brooklyn. He can really do this again.”

Just days after moving to 25 Dean St. from Brooklyn Heights, the school was closed down in November by the city Health Department for unsafe conditions.

Have any dealings with the school? Post below.

I feel bad for the parents and their kids. However, it’s better that the school was shut down before someone’s kid got hurt or worse. I heard that last year, when they were still located in the Heights, they “lost” one of the kids during a trip to the playground down the street. Also, on more than one occasion I heard the teachers yelling at the kids in a very harsh manner.

I recently saw a huge ad for this school on the bus shelter at Atlantic and Court. Nice to see that the owner can spend the money on advertising but not pay the teachers’ health insurance premiums. He ought to be locked up.

The Brooklyn Eagle says the school may reopen (glue this address back together):

My child was at this school and believe all that you read! Avoid anything to do with this pre-school (really only a daycare) at all costs.

Glad to get an update about this story. Ted- I hope that the advertising you saw was not fairly new. That would be crazy! I work on behalf of New York Kids Club and have been trying to follow this story as much as I can. I would love to help out any parent that would like more information about our facilities in the Manhattan area or the Brooklyn Heights location that is opening up soon. Come this Friday, Jan. 18 to the Friday Fun for All event. Details below. Parents have the chance to review the facilities and meet with teachers and founders of NYKC while kids can enjoy everything there is to offer.

This place was such a joke. I went to visit during open house and I couldn’t believe how disorganized they were compared to the other preschools I had visited. I decided if they were so disorganized when they are trying to recruit your child that they would be worse once your child was already in.
