CBS New York Posts Bids For The Five Best Bars In Cobble Hill

CBS New York has posted on its website bids for the five best watering holes in Cobble Hill. Sounds like a good reason for a bar crawl, huh?

The list—which you can see with full descriptors here—was compiled by Jonathan Pogash, a.k.a. The Cocktail Guru, a beverage consultant, writer and educator. He notes, “Cobble Hill, with its well-kept brownstones and vast dining selections, is also a hot-bed of activity in regards to beverages.”

Pogash’s top five are as follows:
* Last Exit Bar, 136 Atlantic Ave.
* Downtown Bar and Grill, 160 Court St.
* Watty & Meg, 248 Court St.
* Henry Public, 329 Henry St.
* Waterfront Ale House, 155 Atlantic Ave. #A

It’s like the Cocktail Guru didn’t even try half the bars in Cobble Hill….

Watty & Meg? Mr. Pogash just lost whatever credibility was remaining.

Pete’s is in Cobble Hill? Isn’t that side of the Ave Brooklyn Heights? I guess this also all depends on where your draw the line between Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens.

Even so, it’s Last Exit. Unpretentious. Excellent bartenders. Was here long before suspenders, ridiculous mustaches, and $13 cocktails (you know because orange bitters is expensive).

I have lived here a year and have my own top 5. Yes some of cross over into Carroll Gardens. Get over it.

    #1. Last Exit (agree!)
#2. Joya ($4 beers and best lychee martini I have ever had)
#3. Camp (smores cocktail is amazing)
#4. 61 Local (Beers and cheese man, beers and cheese)
#5. Verde on Smith (1/2 priced bottles of wine, plus unlimited drinks with brunch for only $15)

Honorable mentions: Angry Wades/O’Keefes are solid sports bars, Bartabac is always good for some live tunage and a martini, and Great Bar Harry let’s you bring the dog!

My ‘will not go to’ list is just as important, that is:
#1. Downtown Bar & Grill (the prices are astronomical, service is terrible)
#2. Pete’s Ale House (really rude staff and always stanks like popcorn)
#3. That sports bar on Atlantic between Court & Boerum (stinky and bad beer selection)
#4. NY Perks (seriously I don’t understand how they are even open)

Say what you will about Waterfront Ale House (the staff does has some incredibly rude waiters- but not all of them are)- I really like that place. The food is good, and I have great memories there… Some of them involve my friends and I tormenting the incredibly rude waiters. Oh wait… maybe thats why they are so rude… oops….

Melody, hopefully you won’t be here for another year, poser.
