Barney’s Co-Op Opening in October

Photo : Fitbeth

CHB reader @fitbeth snapped this photo of window ads touting the opening of the Barney’s Co-op at 194 Atlantic Avenue in October.

Last week, BOCOCAland caught an inside shot new store.

The construction seems to be in motion, and according to new signage, the store is expected to open in September. Some may wonder, “What is the difference between Barney’s and Barney’s Co-Op?”  I assumed (and hoped) it was the cheaper version of the infamous Barney’s New York, but the Co-Op website has a five-line mission gives a different message that doesn’t reflect on price.

The Mission:

“It’s the wayward offspring of Barney’s New York.

It’s always downtown even when it’s uptown.

It’s a lab where the experiments never hurt.

It’s a place where age means diddly, but self expression and creativity mean everything!

The Co-Op… birthing trends since 1985.”

The message implies that it’s the cooler, trendier, more hip version of Barney’s, but the boots are still $1,295.00. I suppose we just have to wait until September.

I looked inside last week and they were hanging the HVAC stuff, including the air conditioning ducts. I asked one of the guys by the door if they had anything in a 48 Long…

Thank god. One unnameable/ineffable or three or three-in-one or your invisible boyfriend or whatever. Praise Allah. Sacrifices to Ishtar. And so on, and so forth, coving all the bases.

Please be sure to tweet and FB this news to the world. Cobble Hill grows up. Cobble Hill matures. Barney’s is here. I can die now, in peace, in a nice new suit.

    Keep those press-release coming, kids.

Was that just nasally yuppie sarcasm?

    Apologies to landlord.

October? Really? That ain’t right! I live in this building and the construction noise is out of control. Like someone drilling into your brain starting at 7 am. Hope ya’ll appreciate our pain and suffering for the opporutnity to shop at this over priced store. I hate this place and it hasn’t even opened yet!

While I have no intention of shopping there, did you think it would remain empty forever, Resident? You chose to move above an empty storefront in a new building on a busy commercial strip. At some point, there was going to be construction.

What I’d still like to know is what makes it a “co-op”. Seems like a very shallow marketing ploy and does a disservice to real co-op ventures.

No, of course I didn’t think the space would remain empty forever, but I also did not anticipate heavy construction starting at 7am. I pay to live in a building where I can sleep. These construction workers start at 7am and go home at 3pm. How about just working the normal hours we all work, 9-5. There are people in this building who work nights and count on being able to sleep past 7am.

Resident: “Normal” days in the construction industry are 7am to 4pm. Thought everyone knew that.

I got used to those 7am “wake up calls” when they started on the big hole in the ground at court b/t sackett and union. They stopped construction after they built the foundation. Yay, quiet mornings! Boo, big hole in the ground until forever. I’m thinking of calling in Leslie Knope.
