WTF @ Atlantic Key Foods, Part 2

Our neighborhood Key Food has recently become an internet sensation, with their green meat and odd seafood.
I decided to give them another visit, and the “seafood section” provided yet another gem, “Boneless —-”. They don’t have to worry changing this expiration date as I have no doubt that this will fly off the shelf before it expires in two months.
If you see anything fun at Key Food (or any of our neighborhood grocery stores), please snap a photo and email it to us: tips AT cobblehillblog DOT com. Let’s make this a fun project, but also pressure our local shops to clean up!

I was in there taking reference photos for an illustration I was working on, and the manager told me that I couldn’t take photos. When I asked him why he told me that they’d had problems with undercover reporters and such. I thought to myself, “Well, maybe the problem isn’t the PHOTOGRAPHS” and vowed to never shop there again.

That’s ridiculous! When they changed management recently, I assumed that it couldn’t get any worse, but apparently I was wrong.

Any other reports about being turned down with cameras?

Sounds like it’s time for a whole bunch of people to show up with cameras. It’s obviously got them worried.

I took a picture there yesterday of a package labeled Peeled Shrimp. It contains faux crab, raw mussels, and raw squid.

What is that and why is it so cheap? We don’t buy much from Key but where on Earth would that have come from? SHould those who really can’t afford to shop elsewhere be warned…especially with what’s going on in the Gulf. Would this store intentionally sell tainted products?

I’m still new here…it this just a long running joke or a serious matter? YUCK!

Far from an inside joke, this is just a gross grocery getting even more vile. It appears that the Post is digging into this story.
And for all that is holy, if anyone in the ‘hood is searching for seafood, please visit Fish Tales or the vendors in the green market. To educate yourself on ethical seafood eating, Grescoe‘s Bottomfeeder is mandatory reading.
    Sorry to preach

This weekend they definitely had a lady standing by the deli counter spying on folks that lingered in the meat and seafood dept.
    Outrageous.
