Bergen Street Resident Cranky About Bored to Death Shoot

A resident of Bergen Street between 5th and 6th Avenue gives producers of the HBO smash Bored to Death an eyeful with this sign (above) posted below their “No Parking” sign:

People who park here don’t necessarily live on this block & won’t see these signs. They will believe they are legally parked until 7:30am on Tues. If you care as you say you do about inconveniencing the neighborhood you wouldn’t wait until 3 days prior to put up signs. A minimum of one week so people would see it when they parked would be considerate.

The show will shoot there Tuesday (4/20).

The writer is soooo right! We all know what a shortage of parking spaces there are. Who wants another ticket or better yet, a sidewalk confrontation? BklynMom

Don’t bother asking a location shoot crew to be considerate. They don’t care, and they never will. They’re privileged little jerks who think we should all be grateful for anything they do. Just remember that they can’t stop you from walking anywhere, ever. If you need to get somewhere, walk right through.

Nagob, actually, film crews are just doing a job, just like the rest of us and if you think they are privileged then you clearly do not know anything about the industry. Most PAs who are asking you not to walk in certain places are barely making any money and are getting pressure from the higher ups. And by saying that they don’t care about inconveniencing locals is such a gross over-generalization that you really come seem as disrespectful as you are ignorant.

Actually JJ, I’ve dealt with them over and over — many shoots, many crews and many locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan over eleven years, and I have no problem at all with my assessment. I’ve gone looking for members of a film crew who might care about blocked subway entrances, or maybe the floodlights shining into people’s homes at half past midnight, but no luck. So yeah, the Mayor’s Office of Film Theater & Broadcasting supposedly teaches crews to be respectful, but I have yet to see any change. And maybe if they bought from local merchants (they don’t) or hired locals (they don’t) or paid fees to local neighborhood associations (they don’t), their posturing about “being good for the neighborhood” would make sense. And yes, we all have jobs to do, but how many of them involve taking time and space away from other people? A construction crew can certainly block traffic, but at least they’ll leave behind a new building or a repaved road. I’m all for employing people, but they’ll be just as employed on a sound stage.
