Cobble Hill Pizza

null
As you may have heard, Lucali’s was recently named the BEST pizza in New York by Zagat’s. While congratulations are in order for this achievement, their lines are now bordering on outrageous and it’s time to consider the other area options…

Eat In Pizza
I’m a huge fan of the pizza at Sam’s on Court Street. They don’t deliver, so if you’re not inclined to deal with the owner Louie, Cobble Hill Park is nearby to down the pie with a nalgene of wine.

Has anyone tried La Pizzetta on Atlantic Ave yet?

Delivery Pizza
Our go-to delivery pie comes from My Little Pizzeria, with the occasional change of pace at Layla Jones.

Of course, if you’re near the F Train, a trip down to Totonno’s in Coney Island ain’t a bad idea either. (photo from Sunday above)

Where are you guys eating pizza these days?

Without question, FASCATI on Henry Street is the best pizza in Brooklyn.

    FATscati? no way.

Fascati’s is a great slice if you’re walking by – but far from the best in BK. Plus, the pies are always cold when they get delivered to Cobble Hill

Zeek, are you off your freakin rocker?? I love a slice at Fascati’s but there are many places better in the borough. First of all I am glad Sam’s is mentioned becuase they are great. Louie is hilarious too. I have never been to Lucali’s I regret that because now I guess it’ll be a while before I find out. At least it is too far from manhattan for the tourists who now have ruined Grimaldi’s for me.

I tried La Pizzetta last week. I liked the pizza — nice thin crust and good quality ingredients on top.

La Pizzetta is the same as Savoia. It’s OK, not amazing nor near the best.

I am a recent convert to Fascati though I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years.

A recent find is Mario’s on Dekalb Ave. Hole in the wall I passed by many times without consideration. One day I inexplicably went in and had a slice. Great crust, sweet sauce … a very nice slice. I’ve been back many times since.

Also, for something heartier, House of Pizza and Calzone’s (Union St) for the upside down pie – a Sicilian with the sauce on top of the cheese. Don’t know why that is, but it is good!

I use to go to Fascati’s all the time until they screwed up my phone order 3 times in a row and 2 times after that. All were pick up orders and very simple. 2 of the orders were never made. I got there in 15 minuets (when the guy said it would be ready) and they didn’t even start it yet. This started a year ago. I guess the guy taking phone orders just doesn’t care. I was never given an apology or (god forbid) a free slice. I will not go back. I’ll go to Monty Q’s even though its 7 blocks away.

Tyler: You must come from someplace far, far away to have such high standards of service ( getting an apology and free slice at Fascati) and low standards of pizza – where Monty Q’s would be a palatable alternative.

    EG,

I have to disagree. I think Savoia’s pizza is among the best. I’ve been to La Pizzetta twice. The first pie I got there was a bit too salty (it had olives and salami on it). But I shared a couple of them this past weekend and they both were excellent.

No doubt about it, Lucali’s is fantastic. But, in my opinion, with so many other very good options, why on earth would you wait 45 minutes outside for pizza? Plus, Lucali’s options are very limited.

La Pizzetta was pretty terrible. I went with my wife and a friend two weeks ago on a Friday. They have no liquor license, so there was neither wine nor beer. The mixed green salad was stale and had very little crunch. The pizzas were not properly rotated in the oven, so each pie has one half that was crispy and another half that was soggy. And the service was just okay. I would not go back.

I think my main issue with La Pizzetta is that I am 6′ 2” 175 lbs, and cycle 40 miles/day. My caloric requirements are just too great for these places like La Pizzeta. I’d need about three of the pies for myself to be satiated. One is but an appetizer! I suppose it leads to a less than stellar review when you leave a place still hungry.

The Fascati cheese is saltier than I like. I’m a sauce man, anway. I prefer My Little Pizzeria for a slice with spinach, olives, and mushrooms. Never have a problem getting a seat, either.

I come with a large party to La Pizzetta, expecting the worse bc who likes to accommodate a large group with two kids? Well, much to my surprise their reception was so welcoming, that I left feeling like I will definitely be cozying up here this winter. Toppings were fresh and tasty(carpaccio and broccoli rabe) and staff was just going out of their way to be nice and accommodating. A big plus in this jaded world.
