Courier Life reports that a woman had her wallet stolen while shopping at Trader Joe’s (they spell it “Traitor“…. hello copy editing! Yeah, we should talk) on April 9 at 6:15pm. They add that this sort of crime has happened there before. So look out for skells, misfits, low-lifes and the like at the ol’ TJ’s.

That store is SO crowded after work that it doesn’t really surprise me that there are pickpockets targeting that store. I’ve been jostled and bumped in there during the after-work rush and have never really been sure if it’s the grabby kid in the cart next to me, someone just being careless, or someone with ill intent.
Which is why I no longer go there after work. Who wants to wait in line for a half hour for groceries?!?
Bad time to go is any time around 5pm, when a veritable wave of people pour through the front door. Also, weekends are bad, as is Monday. But with up to 31 registers, the line moves very fast.
I keep my wallet in my shirt pocket, *never* in back pocket; I call it “exercising my NY paranoia”, and have never been pocket picked. Yet…
I almost had my wallet stolen there once. I stupidly left my bag in my cart and turned away from the cart to pick out chicken and Luckily I turned around in time and saw a woman with her hand hovering over my wallet in my bag. She muttered something and then left. I will never do that again. I don’t even bring my bag anymore.
how about installing some security cameras, Trader Joe?
Security cameras… meh. They probably already have them, with a security person monitoring. And still it might take hours of scrutinizing “footage” from multiple cameras to determine who snagged your wallet, unless you knew the precise time and aisle location. Thieves are brazen. I’ve seen the Thrift Shop employees on Montague St kicking out a woman who has been banned for shoplifting, but keeps coming back!
Best thing might be for people like Kelly (who catch ‘em redhanded) to chase the thief out and tell all employees they pass on the way to the exit to remember the thief’s face.
