Cobble Hill Association elects new officers

In a press release sent out yesterday, the Cobble Hill Association announced mid-term changes to its executive board. The most major of the changes is the replacement of current president Jeff Strabone with former president Roy Sloane, as Strabone will be moving to Florida for a postdoctoral fellowship. The Cobble Hill Association executive board announced mid-term changes to their executive board. Roy Sloane has been elected president to replace Jeff Strabone. Dr. Strabone has moved to Tampa for the academic year to take a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of South Florida. Deborah Schenk and Susan Dowling will remain in their current positions of 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President respectively. Liz Velikonja will continue to serve as Treasurer. Laurie Maurer and Joanne Nicholas switched their roles with Maurer now Recording Secretary and Nicholas Corresponding Secretary. All terms will extend to May 2010 as originally elected. Dave “Paco” Abraham, chairman of the CHA’s Green Committee, will replace Sloane as Membership Secretary. He was responsible for organizing the first Cobble Hill Bike Ride and a highly successful electronics recycling event with P.S. 29. The Cobble Hill Associated, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing the quality of life in Cobble Hill, celebrated their 50th Anniversary this May with a party at Borough Hall. Recently, they launched the Cobble Hill History Project which will include a neighborhood history written by noted historian, Francis Morrone. The group is already working on their popular Halloween parade. The event drew more 1000 children in costumes to Cobble Hill Park last year.     Hey Cobble Hill Association–how about getting LICH to fix their park at Amity and Henry St? There is peeling paint on the kids slide and tree house and graffiti inside and outside the playground equipment. Emails to LICH to get them to fix the problem have been fruitless.
