Time Out’s senior film writer, Joshua Rothkopf, writes about the reasons why he loves his neighborhood of Cobble Hill in the most recent “Own this City” section of the magazine. Amongst his favorites places are Quercy, Sam’s Restaurant, and Cobble Hill Cinemas. What are the reasons why you love Cobble Hill?
“Pity me, I live in the nicest neighborhood in the city,” says Joshua Rothkopf, TONY’s senior film writer. Fighting words? Not really. “Cobble Hill is a paradise of artisanal restaurants, independently owned shops and lovely residents in sundresses. Where do I go? And still avoid the Smith Street drunkies and interlopers? You so want to click through.”

I love Cobble Hill… because I can get any and every kind of cuisine I’m craving here… There’s amazing Thai food, pub food, Middle Eastern food, British food, dumplings, pizza, Italian food, and seasonal all-sorts-of-things within a block of two of my apartment. It’s a delicious place to live.
Pros: Tree lined streets, Veranda Park (they do a good job keeping it up and beautiful flowers), Central location to most subways, when the F train is not working. Sahadi and Trader Joe easy walk. Joan Millman.
Cons: Met Supermarket on Smith. Management does not speak English when you have a complaint. Too many prices not marked. Mothers with baby cabs who walk side by side on a narrow sidewalk and don’t fall back to single line even when they see you approach, thoughtless. Neighbors who fill public trash baskets with their
household garbage.
Having travelled all over the world I can tell you that the best place on earth is Cobble Hill. The world lives there and you’re a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. great institutions, great schools, great charm, very European. I love it love it love it.
You are soooooooooooooo lucky living in Cobble Hill. I wish I did. My great uncle lived on Bergen Street in the 1920′s and how I wish the home had stayed in the family for many many years and I could live there now. I am english and live in London, England, but will be coming to Manhattan for my annual visit in December and I definitely plan to visit Cobble Hill then.
