The old Daily News garage on 3rd Avenue and Degraw Street is being turned into Brooklyn Boulders, a rock-climbing gym that will feature a climbable model of the Brooklyn Bride. It’s set to open in July.
The Brooklyn Paper: Lance Pinn said that he and his two partners wanted to bring rock-climbing to Downtown Brooklyn, but didn’t find an adequate spot until they saw the Daily News garage, which is surprisingly cavernous.
“It looks like a 20 foot building [from the outside], but there’s an inset inside that goes up to 30 feet, five inches,” he said.
Such height will be enough to accommodate the center’s biggest architectural flourish: a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, suitable for climbing.

How very neat- since they have taken the hanging grip bar that had the treads along the grip bar so that you exercise as well- well with the new look in these parks today- they eliminated that hanging grip bars in all the parks-
So this climbing wall- should be a delightful exercise for anyone to climb and exercise as well.
We need more areas, here in local Red Hook- like a tennis court, where we would have an area large enough to play tennis as well, without joining a club.
Someone,think about this ??
