The Brooklyn Paper’s “Thurston Dooley III” has an issue with Cobble Hillbilly/kid’s music star Dan Zanes‘ alleged spiritual turn on his new album. The scribe claims that the wild haired troubador has “gone Dylan” on The Welcome Table (in stores 2/27), a reference to the folk Godfather’s born-again stance on his 1979 release Slow Train Coming.  Has Zanes gone all Jesus on us?  Is that a bad thing?  We’ll let the music speak for itself when it comes out on Friday.

Brooklyn Paper: The preaching on “The Welcome Table” is relentless. There are repeated references to humans being, “God’s children.” There is a song that suggests that the world would be a better place if we’d all just “get on board” the Jesus train. Another resuscitates the tired trope that any task can be achieved, even the relocation of a mountain, if one believes in God.
